How do I switch "names" on SSX3?

How do I switch "names" on SSX3?
Been playing SSX3 and it doesn't seem to let you enter your name when you get a record.
My brother and I raced on all the old versions and dominating the high scores and getting all 5 top times, and pushing the other's name down/off, was the major drive to keep playing.
How can we play and be sure our respective name is with our high score. The options seem to hold one name, and all records go to that person.
If we want to play heads up, and use same character pool/options... how can we differentiate. It's upsetting getting a record time only to have it credited to my brother.
