Quick question for R63 owners... I got this in the TRU Buy2G1Free deal and was wondering: Is the style of this game like Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell - where there is stealth and "hiding" and kind of slow moving action.... or is it more of a "run into a building and just shoot shoot shoot all around at a bunch of people." I love the GR gameplay especially when my bro and I play together at night and have the DD5.1 going.
I'm not into the constant shooting types of games. Thanks

This isn't a run and gunner like Soldier of Fortune or Unreal...you need to be careful and deliberate in order to progress through the game.

I'd say it's somewhere in the middle. There's way more shooting than Splinter Cell, but it's not really run and gun. You will be moving around somewhat quietly but when you see a badguy, it's 'weapons free'. No stealth kills, unless you count a suppressed SMG. You have to prepare before you go in a room. Throw in a flashbang grenade then bust in and blaze away (don't hit the hostage though).

mee, when you say it's not as good on-line as GRIT, could you elaborate a bit. What are the differences that make it inferior?
Here's my post in another forum:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMO GRIT is better because I prefer open spaces, the maps in GR are much bigger allowing for players to set up for ambushes, sniping positions and are all around better suited for more strategic game play. In R6, all you do is blast a door open, toss a frag grenade in the doorway and more than likely will kill a few players in the vicinity since they're restricted to closed quarters.

Also the aiming in GR is vastly superior to that in R6, one reason being is that you immediately know if you've registered a hit because the enemy will either fall dead, or be momentarily stunned by the projectile. In R6 players keep running at full speeds while being pumped by 15 rounds of 4" long ammunition from your M16.
I like being able to completely lay prone behind objects instead of having the top of my dome sticking out behind a crate because designers gave players only one defensive position.

Only 5 maps with 16 player rooms, that's pretty self explanatory.
Fewer online options, no team color switching, a map that's all but useless in MP, and not being able to adjust the number of respawns keep this title from being as good ar GR:IT.

I think a lot of players got caught up in the first day hype, got the game after months of waiting and decalerd it to be "the best ever". After the dust settles they'll be pointing out it's flaws and go back to playing a superior product. Just look at Crimson Skies...

Anyone interested in a R6 squad? I'd like to find people that want to play using actual team tactics and not running around randomly and shooting.

Very true even though I don't have X Box live...yet. I don't like the fact that you can't be sneaky. Bad guys usually see you right away even when you are just peeking. Bad guys move too fast. I don't know why they changed so many cool aspects from the Rainbow Six PC. No more team planning i.e. someone sniping an enemy and the team attacking the same time so they can't kill the hostage. This is more arcade more than a sim, oh well still a fun game.

I thought this was a different game from RS3: Raven Shield on the PC. Is this not the case?

Kellehair 11-01-03 06:47 PM

Based on what I've read...it's different. In some ways it seems better, in some ways it seems worse.

I rented Rainbow Six 3 and am having issues loading a save game. I figured out that you can only save 3 times during a mission (can't overwrite, etc) the hardway as the book did not really address that.

Sorry if someone already asked this, but can you only load from one of the 3 save points during that playing session? In other words if I am near the end of a mission, and have saved that but decide to come back later (after turning off my X-Box) and play from there can I not do that? It seems to be starting me at the briefing/insertion point of that mission and not allowing me to load from a save point.

If that's the case, it kind of $ucks.

I know one of you guys will know this. Thanks.

I played with snowmizer's crew last night. Fun bunch of guys! Also hooked up with shapshooter (Finbogg) for some coop action, pretty cool too.

Anyone been playing this? My tag is Bob Roberts.

MrX 11-07-03 10:12 PM

I've just been doing campaign. I haven't played it on Live yet.

My tag is in my sig
