Please Help w/ Gamecube hardware issue**
Hey guys/gals,
Lately my gamecube will be working fine and then it stops and gives me a "cannot read disc error". I have tried a number of different discs and seem to get the same issue. I have checked the discs for scratches and or fingerprints- even my new SXX3 does this w/out a blemish on it- I have also tried wiping the pickup. It also makes a grinding noise sometimes before it stops.
IF ANYONE CAN OFFER ANY HELP PLEASE BY ALL MEANS LEND A HAND- I HATE TO BUY ANOTHER GAMECUBE.........
Thanks.

https://www.nintendo.com/cpp/repairs/warrantyLookup.do
You can use the following search to find out whether your Nintendo hardware system is still under warranty. You will need to locate the serial number on the back of your system. The serial number begins with one or two letters (i.e., NS, GC, N, AU, CG, MG, G, UC, XU) followed by a sequence of numbers. If your serial number includes a last number that is slightly shaded, please be sure to include this number as well. (Please note, serial numbers are not the same as the model number, which includes three letters, followed by a dash and numbers.)
You must have a valid serial number for your Nintendo hardware system to use this search.
Nintendo systems carry a twelve month warranty. Games and accessories sold separately carry a three month warranty. The warranty covers any manufacturing or workmanship defects and these will be repaired at no charge.

update
Thanks for the input.
- I called Nintendo and spoke to a rep that wouldnt stop talking.
- He was helpful, but basically I'm out of warranty - which I was well aware of, but the cost to get repaired/replaced is 74.95+7.50 shipping.
- Looks like I'll be buying another Gamecube, I'll be looking for a good dealor bundle if anyone knows of one?
If anyone else has any other ideas on this issue please post.

Try calling again and talking to another rep. Sometimes with console makers you'll luck out and get a rep who'll have it fixed/replaced for free even though it's out of warranty. Be upset, but polite for the best odds.

See the above link for information that may help with repairing your GameCube. I had the disk read error with my Gamecube and I was able to fix the problem by following the posted instructions. I did have to adjust the potentiometer twice before the disk read error stopped.
