the Physics in this game are awsome. Havok engine will be the future of games to come. great stuff. reactions to items are just kick ass.
This packaging is really cool...I'm almost tempted to by the PC version just for the packaging, as the Xbox version won't have the nice gatefold and slipcase.

That's it? Damn...the original took me maybe 10-12, maybe more with all the times I restarted levels and respawned. Maybe you are just too good at these games, flashburn!

Hey flash,

Does the game still have a level where Payne goes on a tangent world and start doing platform jumping, and requires delicate keyboard control?

I'll have to see for myself... 4-5 hours seems rather unrealistic.

Nothing like the original games nightmare levels. But the new nightmare's are very cool. There are also some platform jumps and delicate keyboard control required for some small parts in the game. I am going to go and try to beat the game now to see if my estimation was right.

I have also heard from about 10 different people who all beat the game around 5 hours or less. It is defintely shorter than MP1.

When this comes to the XBOX I want to rent it. The blood trail levels in the first drove me crazy and I never finished the game because those levels bugged me so much.

I don't mind some hard jumps as long I can clearly see where I'm jumping to.

Doesnt sound much from everyones reactions soo far, and I hope the PC version is a lot better than the consloe versions, as I have a good PC and want to see what it is capable of, and is it such a big imporvement over PS2 and XBOX? it had better be, as both them are old machines and a PC should in theory smack them about, like a red headed stepchild!

and the PS2 max Payne, well if you had never seen or played the PC version, then yes it was good, but comparing it to the PC version would be silly, the PS2 version was crap compared to the PC game. and if they couldnt port over Max Payen 1 over to PS2 and XBOX what chance of they of porting over Max Payne 2!

Ok guys, im back. I just beat Max Payne 2. I estimate it took me about 4 1/2 hours to beat. I dont think I breezed through it as quickly as possible as I restarted a few different times on levels to try to do as good as possible.

Having said that, I can say this was a kick ass game! It was tons of great fun from the first to the last second. It had a pretty good story that was told in the same fashion as the original. It does also unlock a few extra modes, nothing special , just harder difficulties, survival mode etc.

If you are a fan of action games or the original Max Payne you should check it out, even if it is short, its still alot of fun.

I'd forgotten how short the original was until I reinstalled it a few days ago and beat it in just a few hours. I had played through it a few times, but still, that is very short. I'll still be picking this one up, though. I will wait until Sunday and get it for $35.

The game looks really good. I'm pleased that people with less than top of the line systems are still able to play the game with detail levels cranked up.

I can't believe that people are finished with it already, though. Maybe I'll feel differently on Sunday, but I think it'll take me a bit longer to finish.

Length of the game on the first playthough really depends on how much you want out of it. Listening to answering machines and tape recorders, watching the silly TV shows, talking to your odd fighting companions, playing with the enviroment, reloading just to take out guys with a cooler move, etc., will extend the amount of time in the first playthough.

I'm about 3 hours into the game in the first chapter starting level 5. I'd suspect the game is going to last me 12 to 15 hours if the amount of chapters are the same as the last.

In any case, it's a heck of a lot of fun soaking up the atmosphere.

That's the truth right there. I'm just about where Flay is. 3hrs but in the beginning of Chapter 2. It's really funny to sit and watch the TV shows. I'm really glad they brought back the pink flamingo. It was some hilarious stuff.

The TV shows have a Twin Peaks vibe to them, with the weird voice and music.

Well, I just beat it. Its not as long as the first one, but it took me a lot longer than 5 hours to finish.

I love the little details ... the tv shows, the dialogue of all the characters, level design etc.. The tv shows are great! Nice tongue-in-cheek take on their tongue-in-cheek game.

I reloaded countless times either to take out a batch of enemies without getting hit or to catch all of the little dialogues the enemy characters have before they notice you are there.. some of those conversations are hilarious.

Oh, and the physics! Havoc is awesome. Watching a corpse react realistically to walls, bars, etc as it flies through the air... I found myself throwing grenades more often just to watch the bodies fly.

Absolutely captivating story!! and the ragdoll effect rules!! The game is a total blast and for $35 anyone should most definitely pick it up!! I've been over 5 hours on it so far and I am just starting part III. Kudos to Remedy on a job well done

I was about to ask where you could buy the game for $35, but then I read the first page and my question was answered (Best Buy, this coming week). I'll definitely be grabbing it Sunday/Monday for that price.

I cant let this thread fall off the main page.

I have been playing this game since the release date, I think part of the reason people are finishing it already is because it is so compelling. I rarely finish games, as I get bored with the singleplayer and just move on to MP. However I am sure I will finish this due to its lack of MP and its killer production values. I really think this is one of the finest single player games ever made. It is just so well designed in all facets that it is a real "experience" to play.

I would say the game is not at all short, it is just right. And there is no reason to pack in a bunch of filler crap just to make it longer. I believe that would actually hurt the overall package.

Anyway, buy it and love it.

A little too much style and not quite enough substance for me. Oh well.

Beat the game this morning. It really is a very short game. I think it spent too much time on story/cinematic events then actual gameplay, at least compared to the first one. Never the less, a great game. I'll probably play it again a few times just like the first one. And Dead Man Walking is a blast to play.

The Dick Justice shows were funny, especially the one that mentioned he wore an "eternally constipated expression" on his face

I cannot find this game anywhere. Hopefully Best Buy will have it back on their shelves tomorrow with the rest of the new shipment, because I don't want to miss out on their deal this week.
