You know what's unethical? Giving you a netflix DVD box and when you go home only to find out that the coupons expired like a year ago. WTF!?!?!?

My store has still been taking them, even though the coupons are way expired.

He was letting a poll decide his ethics. I think he is a natural for political life

If you want an *absolute* answer on if it's truly ethical or not, I'd ask Netflix. They are the ones subsidizing the $5 coupon. If they have no problem with it, it's as honest as apple pie.

No, I know how I feel about it. What I said above is that the consensus will determine whether or not I bring it up in other situations.

You're trying to put words in my mouth... who's a natural for political life, now?

I'm glad you brought it up, I'm going to try and get some more from my new local Best Buy. If the cashier rings it up for me & it says "0", I don't see a problem either.

My political attempts always ended in failure so I will leave it at voting for others

So if everyone thinks it is unethical you will still do it just not post about it. Sounds like my ethics

Just wanted to thank Static for reminding me to defraud BestBuy. I went today and picked up 3 netflix trials and told the cashier i would just sign up at home. I didn't even purchase anything. She looked puzzled, but seldom have i ever seen a bestbuy employee look otherwise.

TOTAL: $0.00

Has anyone tried to use these 'expired' coupons?

I haven't yet, but I have had other BB coupons work past their expiration date.

Uh, why do you think I keep signing up for the trials? Yes, they work, at least at the two stores I've tried to use them at.

As ClarkKent stated earlier, we can not take them for all they have taken us for. They had a class action law suit over their extended warranties, and besides the millions the lawyers got, those actually involved in the lawsuit only received 30% off coupon to use towards their merchandise for their settlement.
I would say the % of people using these and other BB coupons would be around 10% if that high, so you might as well take advantage of them, not too many other people do.
Best Buy gets a kick back from Netflix for everyone that signs up, they get nothing for you taking the box, and Netflix is out nothing. Netflix is owned in part by Best Buy's President Dick Schultz, IIRC, so they are pretty much one in the same.

Personally, I don't see an issue with it, as long as it doesn't involve the "fake sign-up with Netflix". In the past I have been able to walk out of BB with these cases without problems.

Also, not sure if this is reliable or not. But I overheard a BB manager/supervisor telling two other grunts that BB get $10 referral from Netflix for every new account that signed up through BB. So, they are encouraged to paddle these as much as possible. Of course, this was sometime last year and I don't know if BB is still getting any referral money.

How about a new poll where we ask if it's unethical to have lots of copies of these Netflix cases and continue to sign people up but no longer honor the coupons. I was denied today and really let the manager have it. I told her she better remove all her copies of these expired deals from her shelves if she's not going to honor the deals. She said she would with a smug smile. I'll come back in a few days to check; if they're still there I'll send a letter to Best Buy complaining this is tantamount to fraud (since there is no expiration date on the boxes and they still sign people up knowing full well that the coupons aren't valid).

I think this is the best answer to your canundrum. They have no problem leaving expired coupons, one of the incentives, out on the floor.

Time for some shyster to start a class-action lawsuit and make millions so we can get a 2% off coupon.

One the back of those coupons, it says the expiration date is 3/31/03. Is Best Buy still honoring them even though they have expired?

I tried to get one of these last Christmas - and the BB punk told me I had to sign up in-store, I couldn't just take it. I said forget it, I'm not signing up for crap, here's your dumb case. (Not as nicely though. He was rude to me, so I gave him some medicine back.)

The next time I went to Bestbuy, I just grabbed a copy on my way out and left. Much easier that way.

I really can't stand the place and the way they run business. If I want another one, I'll just take it again without dealing with the register. Luckily my Worst-buy still has plenty of giftcards.

YEAH! Please update us on this.

I don't think it is unethical at all. Especially since you can use the expired coupons. I didn't know that.

You CAN'T use them anymore, unless you have a nice checker who will manually adjust the price for you. They scan in, but the price won't adjust anymore (at least the past 3-4 times I tried at two different BB locations). As I wrote I had a run-in with a nasty manager who gave me the "I'm on to you and your expired coupons" vibe.

At my best buy it rang in correctly (5$offVG or something like that) I just double checked the receipt. No manual override from the looks of it.

I keep one in my wallet, so i'll keep using them. Nothing to lose. They can look at me as cross as they want, they'll still be the one working at bestbuy.

Well, I haven't tried the VG one since I have a zillion gamer cards. But I've had no success with the CD one, the DVD one or the one for the DVD Player case.

And in my expierence, the checkers tend to be pretty nice; it's the managers that are drunk with pseudo-power.

Seriously, you can use them... it just seems like it goes store by store. No store that I've been to has turned the coupons away.
