In EGMs review they mentioned that the extra levels are on the catridge, and that the E-reader cards simply unlock them.

If that's the case, so much for unlimited levels.

They could be wrong though, as I was under the impression that the levels were on the cards, and were saved to the cartridge once scanned.

Well.. according to the pics and everything over at IGN, when you scan a level card it does save it to the cartridge, but it can only hold so many (32? I think?) and if you happened to go over that amount you'd have to overwrite one.. that alone tells me they are probably on the cards and not in the cartridge. It could be either way, I personally like the idea of them being on the cards for the obvious reason of being able to keep making them. If the cards just unlocked levels already on the cart, it'd make the cards seem a really stupid purchase over say an Action Replay (tada!! unlock them all!).. I'm sure Nintendo wants to show off what the e-reader is capable of, therefore I hope the cards contain level data, else Nintendo be shooting themselves in the foot.

I agree, they're probably on the cards. I have no desire to buy an e-reader and a bunch of card packs, so I'm going to wait and see on this.

If they're on the cartridge and can be unlocked, I'll pick up the game. If not, I'll just re-acquire Mario Allstars for my SNES as portablility doesn't matter to me.

Gizmo 10-06-03 01:42 PM

The levels are NOT on the cartridge, but on the cards themselves. The cards simply tell the game how to organize the level with the characters and such. I very much doubt Action Replay could be used with this.

Gizmo 10-06-03 01:50 PM

Josh, I am positive they are on the cards. Keep in mind, if you have any friends that are buying the game and have an e-reader, you can just scan his cards into your game (that's what I am doing with a friend)

Josh H 10-06-03 01:59 PM

I don't know anyone with an E-reader. I'll probably just pick up Allstars, 4 games for probably less than the cost of this.

I'd love the extra levels, but it's just oo much hassle with the lame cards.

So that's about the coolest thing ever. Looks like I'll have to buy an e-Reader now.

If you don't care about the 2 packs of cards that come with it, I've heard Gamestop has them used for $20.. not bad really.

Just scored Allstars for $8.98 shipped on half.com, so no SMA3 for me. :D

Interesting side note about the Mario All-Stars/Mario World combo cart. Mario World has a different graphic set for Luigi to look more like Luigi, and way different animations. Instead of throwing fireballs from his hand, he SPITS them.

I think they changed Luigi graphics for SM1/SM:LL/SM3 as well, but I can't recall if they were already different from Mario on the first Mario All Stars cart.

I just ordered the original all stars cart. I couldn't find the combo cart for as cheap, plus I still have SMW on the SNES and GBA.

Corky Roxbury 10-14-03 02:34 PM

does anyone know how many cards are in each pack, and how many cards there are in total ?

Corky Roxbury 10-15-03 07:25 AM

WTF??? I was just reading the review at IGn at they said you need two GBA's to use the e-reader, or you can use 1 gba and agb player, this sucks because I do not want a gb player, and now I will have to go buy a gba just to play these extra levels.

NINTENDO you better make this worth my while :)

Yeah, that's the crappy part. Do you not have any friends with a GBA? When I was playing around with the Pokemon promo cards I just scanned them in while my friend was over one day.

Gizmo 10-15-03 10:27 AM

Nintendo has said that all along though...its not like its a sudden surprise. How can you NOT know anyone with an extra GBA of some sort?

Josh H 10-15-03 10:29 AM

I don't know anyone else that's big into games period. Then again, I'm not really big into games myself anymore so it makes sense. ;)

Gizmo 10-15-03 11:11 AM

Woo Hoo! My store is getting copies in early...looks like I'll be scanning away shorlty.

Corky Roxbury 10-15-03 09:52 PM

Best Buy with the $5 gift card coupon is probably the best you'll do. I've yet to see any great deals on any of the SMA games.
