$60.. yowza.. I suppose if you needed the coupons it MIGHT be worth it..

THIS IS IMPORTANT:
Nintendo and IGN have confirmed that the levels on the cards are ON THE CARDS and not simply unlocking levels already on the cartridge. What this means is that they can continue release an endless amount of levels. Hopefully this will open up some nice potential like a series of e-Cards titled "Super Mario 3 EXPERT PLAYERS Levels".

Meh, I have mixed fillings about that.

1. Extra levels is super awesome, especially the potential for endless ones.

2. It sucks to have to buy an e-reader to get them. Plus if the e-reader hasn't (and doesn't) sell well, I doubt we'll see many new levels.

3. I'd rather Nintendo work on an entirely new mario game, rather than just making new levels for SMB3.

Amen to that!!

Seriosuly, this demonstrates what is possible with these cards and scanner. There are 3 kinds of cards in the current sets; Item Cards, which allow you a free item; Demo Cards, which gives you in-game demo of tricks and secrets; and LEVEL CARDS, which installs a new level into the game. You cartridge will store 32 scanned levels, and once they're scanned they stay on the cart!! If you happen to scan more than 32, you'll need to move one off the list.

The Level Cards are where the meat is, and I hope you don't just get 1 per pack or something stupid like that. Plus, I hope somebody at Nintendo reads my idea about the "Expert Player" series of cards.

Maybe they will release SMB 3 item cards you can use in Super Mario World...imagine going through SMW with a Tanooki suit?

Mario World: Not possible.. the e-reader would have to alter the source code of the game, which while possible I think the game has to accept the data from the e-reader to do this.

I've been very curious of the e-cards though. I want to know just how much data is stored on them. Obviously, if you know much about game programming the idea that the levels are on the cards for SM3 makes good sense. It's just using exsisting tiles and enemies already in the game, so the card simply says "Use this graphic set.." and then builds the level, places monsters. I'm sure that takes up very little physical data space. The items cards are a curisoity though. Could they add items or powerups to the game that aren't in the original source? There are supposed to be cards that give you items from other Mario games like turnips or the cape. Are the useage and physics for these items IN the game, or do the cards actually contain thier code?

I wish I had techincal specs on the e-cards, mostly I want to know how much data is stored on each swipe (both long way and short way).

That was just a wish from Pixy.

Extra levels are confirmed, expert are not.

Yeah, just a wish of mine, but it's possible.. it's been noted that if the cards are popular other sets, possibly themed sets, would be made.

I wish I got in on that $10 e-Reader thing.
I'm still "borrowing" my friends.

whoops, I was reading too fast. When I saw expert levels I freaked out .

Anyway extra levels is still pretty cool! They will probably be for more advanced players anyway, kind of like the Bonus levels of Yoshi's Island if you get 100% on all the levels. Those were hard.

I say we petition Nintendo to give us "old-time" fans a set of "Hardocre Levels". It could work.

"Dear Nintendo, we have money. Please take it from us. Love, fans."

How about we petition them for a whole new mario game of "hardcore" type levels.

Nintendo's Japanese SMA4 site has some videos of what the e-reader cards can do.

Good Artlicle on IGN about the use of the cards.

http://pocket.ign.com/articles/451/451854p1.html

Almost makes me want to get an e-reader, I'n not too willing to spend a ton of money on cards though when so many good games are coming out.

Anyone want to comment on the use of the cards in Animal Crossing? Do they really add anything to the game?

Sort of.. if you are after like EVERY piece of furniture, they make it pretty easy to get lots of stuff free..

There are 2 NES Games you can only get on the cards though.. which I have STILL yet to get.

I bought the Action Replay just to unlock Punch Out & Zelda. Do usually cheat but when there isn't another option......

So is it possible to get a code from Tom Nook for e-card only items? I don't think I'll get an e-reader any time soon, so I may have to ask someone to scan their card again and send me a code.

Well, most of the cards yes have passwords.. the Ice Climber and Mario Bros are scan only due to Nintendo not wanting the passwords spread like wildfire. Most of the character cards however, offer things you find in the game anyway.

Yeah, I was just wondering if once someone scanned the item to get, for example, Mario Bros., they could take it to Nook's to trade it in for a code.

A lot of people said that last year too, so don't count on it. I'm still hoping someone discovers a universal code for Zelda, though that's probably getting less and less likely as time goes on.

Of course I got to keep them..

You can't trade them.. they don't even appear in the catalog!!
