It was just a time exclusive, just like Splinter Cell, etc. Once the time limit is up, they're free to release the game on other platforms.

I guess I'll agree with whoever doesn't find the humor in whatever it is you're trying to convey. Personally, I consider a port to refer to the closest source that's being modified.

By renaming them Grand Theft Otto.

They probably just renegotiated the contract with Sony.

And Sony is letting their cash cow get away?

He's right though. Porting code from PC to XBox is a lot easier than porting from PS2 to XBox.

No. Sony only had rights to it as an exclusive for a limited time. That time will soon be up.

I could see where Sony would have a problem if this was a new GTA being brought to the XBox, but I'm sure Sony's already got their money's worth from this exclusivity.

The original exclusivity contract extended until the end of 2004. Sony allowed Rockstar to cut the contract short, in exchange the next GTA game (Grand Theft Auto: Bronson, Missouri) will be a Sony exclusive (at least initially).

Sweet! Funny how OXM kept hinting at it for months & then still misses the scoop & being the first to let everyone know.

Since I never bought a PS2 and GTA has been one of their main games I have always wanted to play, I will be the first in line to buy this on the Xbox! And I get 2 games to boot for waiting!

Am I allowed to laugh at this, or should I simply point out that you mispelled "Branson"

It'll be dual layer at the very least. Probably 2 discs.

Sony's going to be just fine. They've sold tons of PS2's as a result of the GTA games and if allowing Rockstar to port them to the Xbox allows them the next game exclusively, that's a deal I'd take any day.
Sony still has LOTS of great first party games that will remain exclusive (GT 4 should sell like crazy this Christmas) and with third party games like FF X-2 and Manhunt in the wings, they should be just fine. Don't forget about the exclusive deal EA Sports has making their games online on the PS2 only. That is going to really boost the sale of the PS2 version over the Xbox, I'd guess.
I think the posters here who are going to "dump" their stations are certainly the exceptions rather than the rules.

I'll be interested to see how the GTA game sells on the Xbox. I'd imagine pretty well, but you never know...

The PC versions of the games fit on 4 CD's. I think they could get this on on DVD.

Also take into consideration that a PC game on 4 CDs usually extracts to 100GB of data on your hard drive. Not sure how they'll get that on one DVD though.

GTAIII and Vice City both use the Renderware API for atleast their graphics, perhaps more than that (physics, controls, sound etc.,). Due to them using this middleware package that makes it very easy to port things from one system to another, due to Renderware supporting Xbox, PS2, and PC through their API.
