Well, finally bought an X-Box...

I really had no intention of buying one, but when Knights of the Old Republic came out I started thinking about the system a little more. My wife agreed that having an X-Box would be a good addition, we also have a PS2 and a GameCube (plus multiple classic systems).

Having played Knights for a few hours, I feel like I've spent my money wisely. The next question is: What other games for the X-Box should I check out? I love RPGs, Sports, some Action/Adventure titles, and puzzle games. Please recommend some other titles for me as I have very little knowledge of the software library for this system.

Thanks in advance!
Ian

Until Fable comes out I think the XBOX lacks in the RPG area. Morrowind bored me to death.

Fable looks amazing and it gets better each time I read the latest news about it.

XBox is definitely lacking in the RPG area. The only 2 I own are Knights of the Old Republic and Shenmue 2, both of which I love. I can't reccomend many other titles except for Splinte Cell and Soul Calibur 2(if you're into fighting games at all). If you want to find out about some of the other games for XBox I would check out
http://www.ign.com/ or
http://www.gamespot.com/.
They could probably give you a lot more info than I could about all the games for the system.

Morrowind is a great RPG, but you'll want to wait for the edition that includes the expansion packs, or better still play it on PC.

You should try out "Otogi: Myth of Demons", its in the the same mold as Devil May Cry and i think it is an Xbox exclusive but dont hold me to that..

Read a Review for it here

mostly motogp2 but that's doesn't seem to be very popular here.

star wars kotor was a game that dominated my gaming time for a couple of weeks.

right now, i throw in a little Ghost Recon: Island Thunder. but that's about it. i'm looking forward to morrowind game of the year edition, amped 2, fable, dark alliance 2 off the top of my head.

Save your receipt just in case the rumored price drops happen in September.

Check out the Platinum Hits XBOX titles. There are some really nice games in there, plus they're only $20. Amped is the first snowboarding game I've ever gotten into, lots of fun. I picked up Tony Hawk 4 yesterday (had the PS2 version before), and it is far superior on the XBOX. Rallisport Challenge is good if you like rally racing. Dead Or Alive 3 is worth getting just for the visuals... amazing. Hitman 2 is supposed to be very good, as is Morrowind (never tried either). If you haven't played Max Payne on another platform, it's a great game. These are all Platinum Hits; complete list.

If you have a Best Buy in your area, they have a Summer Video Games Buyers Guide that has a coupon for $5 off any platinum title, making them $15. If they don't have the buyers guide, just get the gamer's gift card with a $5 coupon on the back. For $15, there's no reason not to pick up a few that interest you.

Other than these, the library isn't incredibly strong. The only must-buy title in my opinion is Halo. It's worth the $50 they're still charging for it. I've been looking at Burnout 2, but can't bring myself to pay that much for it. Lots of people like Panzer Dragoon Orta, but I thought it was only ok (lots of mindless pointing and shooting).

Oh, make sure you use the feature where you rip your own music and use it for a custom soundtrack to a game; very cool.

You should have waited a little bit longer. The price is going to drop at the end of september.

You seem quite sure about this. Has this been confirmed officially?

A price drop wouldn't have really affected me anyway, I usually buy systems on Release day. So this X-box cost me a couple hundred less than if I had purchased it right away. Savings to me.

My wife is an avid gamer, mostly PC. But she does find the occasional console game she really wants to play. We bought Morrowind and she is having a lot of fun with it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I guess I'll be sticking to the other platforms for my RPG fix.

As far as I know there aren't any plans to lower the price of the XBox any lower than $179.99 for now. They just did lower the price early this year after E3 so if Microsoft lowered the price any more I would expect to hear about it next spring at the least.

you're a lucky guy, my girlfriend despises video games. In fact, if she does play a game, it involves Mario, or Donkey Kong

Not officially, but there are strong hints that console prices may drop at the end of September. IGN said it is a fact that the Gamecube will be dropping in price at the end of September, and sony and ms may be going down too. When I say price drop that means it lowers in price or a new bundle. Oh, and if there's no price drop or bundle then you didn't hear any of this from me.

Some more games for ya...

Medal of Honor - Multi player, unlike the PS2 version...
NCAA 2004 - Great game, don't spring for Madden 2004, get that on PS2.
Time Splitters 2 - Madness, I tell you.
Soul Caliber 2 - Fighting game at it's finest.

I'm enjoying my Xbox, even if there are fewer games that I want on it than on my PS2. Really love KOTOR. Beginning to get into Halo, though maybe it seems a little overhyped to me. DOA 3 is pretty, if not as deep as VF4. I quite like Rallisport, it looks as good as the screenshots I've seen for GT4. I think the S-controller triggers are much better for a racing game than the PS2's buttons. I may have to look into a couple more.

I was suprised that Lint21 said that THPS4 is better on the Xbox, as the PS2 got better reviews (metacritic gives 95 vs 90 on the xbox) and since it's online on the PS2 only. Still I've only played the PS2 version.

I really picked up my xbox for three reasons
#1: KOTOR
#2: Soul Calibur II sounded lame on the PS2
#3: Upcoming games like Deus Ex 2 and Half Life 2 would probably be nearly unplayable on my PC. If you look at the Xbox as a cheap PC graphics card, you won't be disappointed.

I'm pretty happy so far, and when I start with the whole Live gaming expierence, I'll enjoy it even more.

Quick question to multi-system online gamers. If you keep your PS2 and Xbox together, do you switch the broadband cables back and forth? Do you run two cables to the wall and unplug at the wall or do you have some sort of a switcher? Thanks.

how is KOTOR? That is the title that may get me to buy an Xbox.

I use a switcher that also has Dreamcast hooked into it. Those multi system boxes are great. I don't know what I'd do without one.

I currently own both versions, and to me, the XBOX version is better. The control is a little better on the PS2, due to the Dual Shock controller. But the XBOX Type S controller is actually pretty good. The only real problem I have with it is that you have to press L+R to spine transfer, versus pressing R2 (I think) on the PS2. I was thinking about getting one of those adaptors that lets you use your PS2 controller on the XBOX.

My PS2 isn't online, so I don't know about that aspect of the game.

The XBOX version is technically superior, though. It runs in widescreen, 720P, with Dolby Digital. The experience is far superior to that on the PS2, provided you have the proper equipment. I understand that many do not, which may contribute to the generally higher opinion of the PS2 version. Also, there seems to be significantly less slowdown on the XBOX version, and the textures are noticably better, in addition to less aliasing.

The XBOX lets you use your own ripped music, which is a big seller for me. Listening to the same songs over and over again in THPS can drive me nuts, so it's great to be able to swap it out.

Just my opinion. I have no reason to be a fanboy one way or the other.
