Microsoft Buys Rights to 3DO 'High Heat' Game

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...o_microsoft_dc

Are they gonna dump inside pitch?

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) said on Friday it acquired the rights to the "High Heat" baseball video game franchise from bankrupt software publisher 3DO Co. (Other OTC:THDOQ - news).

The company did not immediately disclose the purchase price.

3DO's assets were sold at a bankruptcy auction in San Francisco on Thursday. When the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on May 28, it said it would try to sell its assets.

Microsoft already has its own baseball game, "Inside Pitch," for its Xbox (news - web sites) video game console but game critics have long considered 3DO's "High Heat" as the best among numerous competitors.

High Heat is my favorite baseball series, and I'm glad someone picked it up. I just hope MS doesn't mess around too much with it and that it doesn't become an XBOX exclusive. I've always liked playing it better on the PC.

Ew.

High Heat = Good
Inside Pitch = Bad.
This = Not Good.

I have a bad feeling they're going to mess with it and turn it into Inside Pitch.

That's dumb... why would they buy up a license from a bankrupt company just to make the same game they already make?

i agree. i think they bought it because they KNOW inside pitch was a steaming pile. and the thought of playing high heat online is very cool.

good news.

That is my fear as well. I wonder if they are bringing over any of the High Heat dev team from 3DO or if they just bought the license? High Heat has been the best representation of real baseball, IMO. I hope MS doesn't screw with it and make it into an arcade game.

Maybe Microsoft realizes it's IP series sucks and that's why they picked up the rights to the High Heat series, which was created by Team .366, a sub-division of 3DO. So, hopefully that same group of programers responsible for the previous High heat titles will be allowed to continue the series on the XBOX & PC.

I'm sure they will keep the same team and just try to improve upon what made High Heat so great. Brilliant move by Microsoft to pick up this franchise.

Next to Sony, Microsoft is the worst publisher of sports games but this is a big step in the right direction. If Fever continues to improve next year they could have a pretty solid sports lineup. Inside Drive needs a lot of help though.

High Heat is the best baseball game out, i hope Microsoft just let's the team work on it and pumps in some funding to update the graphics.

Well it might be on PC, but most definitely an XBOX console exclusive.

MS has done a nice job with Bungie so this shouldn't turn out bad at all. Some more money for a graphical upgrade is all but certain and I can't wait for HH on Live next spring.

I liked High Heat 2002/2003 for PC, but I stayed away from HH2004 because of all the bugs and not really an upgrade. I hope Microsoft does good for this game.
