GooD vs. Bad GameCube "NEW"
Nintendo's latest earning report shows, amongst other things, that only 800,000 GameCubes were sold worldwide in the last quarter.
Nintendo has today released its first ever quarterly earnings report showing a profit of some 11.5 billion Yen (US$95.8 million) for the "low demand season" quarter ending June 30. Worldwide sales of 3.24 million Game Boy Advance consoles contributed significantly to the figures for the quarter, with the GBA SP accounting for approximately 85 percent of that figure. Sales of the GameCube have been significantly less impressive though, with only 800,000 consoles being sold worldwide in the last three months.
Nintendo had hoped to sell some 6 million GameCubes and 20 million GBA consoles in the year ending March 2004. Targets that, according to Morgan Stanley analyst Shunji Yamashina, the company is likely to miss unless it takes some drastic measures such as price cuts.

Someone really needs to sponsor a workshop on "How To Appropriately Title a Thread".
As long as the Big "N" keeps making good hardware and publishes good games, they've got my wallet!

I want one of the flame GBASPs... that might make me want to replace my indigo GBA.

From http://money.cnn.com/2003/08/05/comm...ming/index.htm :
Worldwide, only 80,000 GameCubes were sold between April and June.
For the April-June quarter, Nintendo sold 3.24 million units of the Game Boy Advance (GBA), including the newest version GBA SP, but only 80,000 units of the GameCube console.
TOKYO, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Japanese videogame maker Nintendo Co Ltd <7974.OS> said on Tuesday it sold 80,000 GameCube consoles worldwide in the latest quarter.
And in sales news, Nintendo sold 80,000 GameCube consoles world-wide in the first quarter of the business year, which is from April to June.
During the quarter, Nintendo sold a whopping 3.24 million GBA units, while sales of the GameCube were far lower at 80,000 units.

80,000 sounds more correct, and also isn't too good. But most of us gamers (I think, anyway) already feel like Nintendo is gearing up for the next console and is getting set to scrap this.
I think I will always present my profits in terms of yen
It sounds so impressive.

Nintendo has to do the right things to stay in the running and cannot afford to lose lots of market share, but they also have a responsibility to shareholders, etc to be fiscally responsible, not take risks that they cannot afford to take and to turn profits.

Things definitely are bad for the Cube. The Xbox is doing better, but it still got killed by the PS2 as well though SW KOTR will help.
MS and Nintendo are both probably focusing on the next console by now. If they lose badly to the PS3 it might be game over for both of them.
Me personally, I will keep buying Nintendo hardware as long as they keep making it. I have no complaints as a Cube owner except that I haven't been able to buy all the games I want to lately.
