How do I get a Helicopter in Grand Theft Auto III?

I found the chopper at Kenji's Casino but I cant get in it. So I looked around the Police Headquarters and I dont see anything around there either than can lead to the top of the building where a chopper might be. I thought I could fly a chopper in this game, or is that in Vice City only?

Would have been nice.....

It also would have been nice if one could have been rewarded after climbing the hill next to the observatory by actually getting up to the observatory which is listed on the map. Oh well....we can always dream.

Using the flying car code to get to the third area before you are even allowed to be there is pretty cool also.

You can get in and fly the dodo - the nearly-wingless plane at the airport. It takes a bit of practice, but you can use that to fly all over the map.

I flew somewhat but never spent the time to become a dodo pro....

Did you ever fly over the Observatory? Is there even a building on top of the mountain as shown on the map?

BTW....still playing Vice City as of today and I also took a nostalgic ride around GTA3!!! Will need to start that game over soon also.

You can't fly high enough to get there. There is an invisible ceiling over the whole map.

As best I recollect, you can see the observatory but cannot reach it. It mocks me, oh how it mocks me

Huh ? You can hardly play it without tripping over a helicopter.

1) Buy the apartment near the stadium. It's on the roof.
2) Go to the roof of the police station.
3) Go to the roof of the TV station.
4) Take over the mansion.
5) Get the Hunter at the back of the Army base.
6) Try some of the helicopter checkpoint races scattered around the city.
