Half Life 2 delayed until December?

Gist of the above is that they are still wating for official confirmation from Valve, but it looks like HL2 will be a holiday game instead of a Sept 30th release.

I wouldn't be surprised if this slipped into next year, but the pressure to get a title of this magnitude out in time for the holiday season will probably keep that from happening.

No doubt, but if they get HL2 out for the holidays it will still put the hurt on Doom III which is delayed until 2004 (correct?)

correct. But I think Doom III is currently not much better (if at all) than HL2 and if it comes out much later, expectations will probably be higher than the actual product can deliver. Just a guess.

I agree, I think the hype will hurt Doom III.

Half Life II up to relatively recently has been kept under wraps. If they can still get it out by the holidays, that would be a very good thing.

Plus it will give me time to finish the first one.

Hardly DN3D was always hyped, and thats why they never got around to making the game. Valve didn't even admit that they were working on HL2 until recently. Instead of demoing and setting deadlines, they were actually working.

part of me thinks that sucks cuz I wanna play it. Another part of me is glad that they're taking their time. After looking at the video footage - I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed until 2005. I was shocked to hear it would be out by Sept.

They should just go ahead and merge with 3DRealms and Ion Storm so we can play "Daikatana II: Gordon vs Duke".

We can only hope this delay is to finally fix that elevator bug in the original game.

A number of gaming sites out there are carrying word of an alleged Half-Life 2 delay according to some folks at Vivendi Universal who are publishing the title retail for Valve Software. However word doesnt seem to have traveled down to Valve according to an email pulled from the Steam forums. (We havent been able to directly confirm or deny with anyone at Valve yet) who might know a thing or two about that. timm of Shacknews already pointed out this Gabe Newell response:
First time I've heard about this.

If this doesn't get released until December they will already have missed a significant portion of holiday sales. You have to have your product in the stores by Black Friday to take full advantage. In the long run though, it won't matter if the game is decent it will sell like hotcakes. Early indications of quality seem positive.
