One game that has not been mentioned...
Ultimate Muscle. Though the controls are a bit simple, the game is really fun. Playing with 3 others is great. |
Get the gameboy player and go advance!

Wow, thanks for the great responses.
I was never into Wireless controllers, really. I remember a wireless controller I had for my old NES (forget the name of it) and it sucked, big time. It was always dying (ate up batteries quick) and was hardly accurate. Granted, I am sure the Wavebird is much, much better, but I dunno. I might take the plunge, how much are they going for? I don't have a GBA, so no e-reader for me :( So Mario Sunshine is a good game? I have been meaning to pick this up for my gf, she is into the platformers. Any other games that would suit her style? She likes the "cute" games as well. How are sports games on the GC? Is $20 for the memory card 251 a good deal? If not, what memory card should I get? Speaking of memory cards, there was one included with Animal Crossing for the person that asked. I was able to get that game, Zelda, and the GC for just over $161 total out the door. The funny thing is I still haven't replaced my old PS2. I actually bought a GC before I did. Maybe I have crossed over to the darkside muahahaha :D |

The Wavebird is flawless. The batteries last 100+hours, and the controller works just as well as the corded controllers, even through entertainment center doors, under blankets, even from other rooms through walls.
Don't judge it by the old ones from previous generations. They used infrared waves (like a remote control), and thus had a very short range, and pretty much had to be aimed at the recepter. The only drawback is that if you like rumble, the wavebird doesn't have any. I don't miss it at all personally. As for memory cards, just get the 251. Third party memory cards, especially high capacity ones, have a pretty high failure rate and it really sucks to lose all of your game saves. |

Sports games are generally better on other platforms. $20 is normal price, then subtract the $5 Best Buy coupon = $15 Get a Game Boy player to connect to your GC so you can play all the GB, GBC, and GBA games on your GC... |

I registered for the Wavebird for my wedding expecting one but got two. They are the greatest controllers made. Trust everyone that posted the 'bird. Personally I'd get a SP before a GBA Player. The connection bonuses are worth it. I've used the connectivity on Metroid, Animal Crossing (NES games on the go), Zelda, Splinter Cell (sticky bomb rocks), Wario World and Nintendo demo disk. The black SP is coming soon. Get one.

Maybe I'll pick up a 'Bird and a 251 this weekend. Thanks for the advice, guys.
:D |

Eternal Darkness!!!!! :) One of the best games I've ever played. There's no excuse not to have it at $14.99. I got it for $50 and it was worth it.
Metroid Prime is also a must have, and Resident Evil, Resident Evil Zero, and Super Mario Sunshine. Pikmin is another interesting title thats a lot of fun. Skies of Arcadia Legends is a great rpg. Super Monkey Ball 2 is great for multiplayer games, its really easy to pick up and play, as is Super Smash Bros. Melee. Definitely get a Wavebird, it lets me close the doors of my entertainment cabinet, plus I can sit farther away in a comfy recliner. Worth every penny. Just came out that I haven't had a chance to pick up yet: Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour Coming out soon that I'm getting: F-Zero GX and Rebel Strike |
I sold my wired controller that came with the cube because the wavebird is all you will ever need. Forget all you know about wireless because before the wavebird, they have all sucked ass. The ones that were IR sucked. This is radio controlled and works flawlessly. This is not an accessory, it is a necessity (eat your heart out, Jessie Jackson).

Originally posted by jeffdsmith IF you notice I specifically put "game's that I've enjoyed" on the top. The list is exactly that. (Save Fzero) There are likely more but I didn't think of them at the time. I was taking the time to answer his question. FYI there are over well over 250+ games available on the system. Likely 300 now. A nod for Pikmin. It was like crack for a month or so. Plus the sequel is due out soon I think. |
Originally posted by Michael Corvin You also said "quick list." A quick list is 5-7, not 30-40. But nitpicking aside: A nod for Pikmin. It was like crack for a month or so. Plus the sequel is due out soon I think. A "quick list" is not determined by length, rather how long it takes me to type it, If I can type very fast, a list of 30 games is still quick. In this case time and length are related, but not directly proportional as we all know everyone types at a different speed. I won't even get into the definition of quick and how it's relative since it has no fixed measured variable. |
I'm not even going to argue with the lameness of what just occured.
I've been a Cube owner since Christmas with a handful of games (not surprisingly, most from nintendo). I also have a wavebird (which I find pretty good), GB player and 2 memory cards. If that doesn't entitle me to to criticize the system I own then I must say my friend, that this is total BS. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe you thought otherwise. Well, now you know. When I look at the gaming horizon for the cube and see that there are like 2 games I'm interested in, I cry. When nintendo is #3 in the market, I cry. When I see that there really isn't a choice in what I play since third parties ignore the cube, I cry. When I see nintendo's future lies in gimmicky GBA connection, I cry. If the cube were the only system I had, I'd definitely cry. |
Okay... We've got one guy typing really fast and another guy crying. This is a real winner of a thread. But to offer some advice to nickdawgy... some of the best games out on GameCube can be found really cheap. Here are some deals I've scored:
* Super Mario Sunshine at EBGames: $30 (includes $20 EB voucher and $6 MSN Wallet). This deal is now dead, but you can still get the game for $30 new at Blockbuster. * Metroid Prime at Blockbuster: $20. This may or may not still be available. Check your local store. * Resident Evil Zero at EBGames: $20 (includes $20 EB voucher). Still available. You can also get this new for $20 at Blockbuster. * Eternal Darkness at GameStop: $15. Still available. Or if you don't mind vouchers, get it for $30 from EBGames, which includes a $20 voucher. * TimeSplitters 2 at Best Buy: $15 after $5 coupon. Still available. This game didn't get much praise, but I really like it. One of the best aspects of the GameCube for me has been the surprising affordability of the games. Here are the games I currently own: Super Mario Sunshine Zelda: The Wind Waker Animal Crossing Metroid Prime Eternal Darkness TimeSplitters 2 Resident Evil Zero Because I was lucky enough to take advantage of a misprice on Zelda and Animal Crossing a while back, I have paid a total of $135 plus tax and/or shipping for these seven top games (plus I got $46 in vouchers). Even with their greatest hits lines, neither of the rival consoles can beat that. |
One of the best aspects of the GameCube for me has been the surprising affordability of the games. FYI, Atari Jaguar games can be had for less than 5 dollars a piece. I hardly consider that a good aspect for the system. |
People keep saying Super Mario Sunshine (new) for 30 bucks at Blockbuster. When you say Blockbuster do you mean the actual rental stores or a standalone store that just sells new products?
|
Originally posted by Revoltor Unless greatest hits (or players choice or whatever) games are 20 and new releases 40, I'm afraid you're wrong. Nintendo has always milked the prices on their games. I'm just gald they realized how stupid it was to charge 40 for the GBA games. FYI, Atari Jaguar games can be had for less than 5 dollars a piece. I hardly consider that a good aspect for the system. Competition and the change from cartridges has made GC games surprisingly affordable compared to previous generation Nintendo games. |
Originally posted by Revoltor Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft/Sega have always milked the prices on their games. nickdawgy, the memory card you should get is the memory 251. I got it since it came out and I still have not filled it up yet (I don't play sports games though). |
Let me be another to chime in about the wavebird controller. I still have not used the original controller that came with my GC. I bought the gamecube, wavebird and robotech battlecry as a bundle for $150, so it is still in the box.
The range on it is incredible. I have literally played the game 30' away from the TV, upstairs and through walls, and the controller still works. (before anyone decides to say something, I have fast forwarded through cutscenes and such through walls.) Games that most GC owners would say that are worth buying. Zelda Metroid Mario Sunshine Super Monkey Ball 2 Resident Evil Series Mario Party 4 Coming soon F-Zero Mario Kart Soul Caliber 2 I usually am not one to accept 3rd party hardware, but I got a interact 1000 memory card for $10 at the time, and I have not had any problems with it. For the price, even if it does fail, I have gotten my money worth. I have had it almost a year now. |
I'm still wondering how the heck you managed to get both the free $50 gift card and a free game with the cube.
|
it's easy, just act like you know what you're doing :D
|
Does best buy match target's 50 dollar gift card ad?
|
Mario Party 4 is decent. Not worth $50 IMO. It is more of the same, it can be fun at times. MP5 they are supposed to be starting from scratch and not building on the others, that should be more interesting.
[hijack]If all the mini-games don't take up that much memory because they are pretty basic. Why can't they include EVERY mini-game from the first 3? Have a Super Mario Party! Around 200+ mini games. that would be cool, especially if they brought back the fishing from the first one[/hijack] Just got Mario golf. It is quite fun. Only spent a few hours with it, but I would say it warrants $50. |
