Maybe not that game in particular, but the lack of innovation and half-assed approach to the series as a whole has definitely lowered fan enthusiasm for the property.

How about citing the "beat into the ground" series for poor sales?

The first movie sucked as bad as the games, so there is plenty of blame to spread around.

Didnt the "Tomb Raider" fad die about 3 years ago?

I cannot believe that someone that high up at a movie studios can say this with an honest face. Either that or he needed to save his job.

Quote:
Paramount executives blamed an over-abundance of sequels this summer, but also pointed to "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness," the latest game in the franchise from Britain's Eidos Plc
"The only thing we can attribute that to is that the gamers were not happy with the latest version of the 'Tomb Raider' video game, which is our core audience," Paramount distribution president Wayne Lewellen said.

Mr. Lewellen, you sir are an idiot. You cannot find anything else wrong except for the videogame being weak/delayed.
What about a truely horrid 1st movie? What about a weak marketing campaign and a crass Jeep tie-in? What about strong competition and terrible scheduling. What about audience fatigue of action movies (in a summer of lots of action movies) or an insipid plot? Look in the mirror before casting the first stone!
