Need recommendations for birthday present: PC games
Hello,
I need to get a birthday present for my brother, who'll be 36 in a few weeks. He likes games like Civ, Populous, WarCraft, Starcraft, etc. I think he just bought WCIII, so that's out. I don't want to spend 49.99 either. Are there any recommendations out there? I was thinking of maybe getting him an expansion pack for WCIII....

That would be a good choice if he does have WCIII. It's around $35, and includes a lot of new content. Personally I have been hooked on Age of Mythology for a while now. I'm pretty sure it retails for $39. It is another RTS game similar to WC, and CivIII. Although it is a little older now Age of Empire II is still a great game. You can get the pack with the game, and expansion for $29. Can't go wrong with that.

How about the new Age of Wonders, its turn based so he might like it, but its a bit expensive as its new though.
www.dirtcheapsoftware.com - is that legit? Some of their prices seem insanely low (like 1$)

It's really cheap now ($10 or less) and the graphics aren't so hot now, but if he has any interest in Japanese history or something similar I'd really recommend something like Shogun: Total War. It's a ton of fun -- kept me interested for a good 2 weeks till I beat it (and it's the kind of thing I'll go back to eventually). You can either micromanage your provinces and battles -- in a Myth format -- or focus on the larger picture and leave the battles to the computer.

I was going to recomend Operation Flashpoint which you can get for around $20-$30. You can even find copys of Cold War Crisis in the bargain bin at CompUSA. But it seems he's more into RTS games.

How about the electronic arts game pack, with Earth and Beyond, NFS high stakes, Command and Conquer renegade, and Freedom Force. Its a great game pack and I bought mine from Gamestop for only 7.50 new.

Now, dancinns, don't corrupt any more innocents just because we need some more whipping boys.

But seriously, SmallBall is a great "free" game for anyone who likes a good strategery game and baseball. I say "free" because you'll have to drop the $20 for the trainer since the free one blows.
