ditto, while GTA is a great game it's old news. I'll take a very good new and original game over a port of an old/great title.

I loved Vice City and its story, voices, concepts, and pure freaking STYLE put it far ahead of GTA in my book. Too bad I've already played the heck out of the PC version, else I'd be all over this. Still, I'm sure there'll be plenty of people who love it on the Xbox. And knowing a better version is coming down the line DOES dampen enthusiasm for the first version. It was like that with the Saturn & DC, always knowing a PS1 or PS2 version coming later would probably be better. So being able to show Vice City is indeed on their system is a (small) victory for M$.

That would be a good point IF we had any hard evidence (i.e. an official announcement) that Rockstar had started development on it.

All we have now are rumors that it may be coming.

I'm kinda tired of rumors. I like real proof.

It's kinda like when I'm playing Mechassault and I have to stop to go sit on the toilet because of a gut pain.

There had better be something in the toilet, not just a fart.

Don't worry, that's what we'll get. This will not happen as rumored. The closest we'll see is a game SIMILAR to the GTA series, perhaps even built on the same engine. We will NOT see Vice City.

I just confirmed this with my inside source... Vice City and GTA3 are going to be packed into one package for the Xbox... it should come out before the exclusivity contract runs out - perhaps the holidays. How? Why? Well, because Sony allowed them to do it as long as they promised GTA4 would be a Sony exclusive. :/ So it's both good news and bad news for Xbox owners. This is supposed to be classified and confidential and whatnot, but my friend doesn't work in America and I don't work for the company he works for, so I don't care.

What exactly is this going to do for XBox?

This isn't going to be a system seller. Anybody that was going to be willing to buy a new system for the GTA series bought a PS2 long ago.

So, assuming this is true (which is a big assumption), outside of exciting a few XBox loyalists, I doubt it does much.

It'll be 39 or 49 bucks most likely... he didn't say, but I wouldn't expect it to be any higher than any other new game. I think both games would fit on one disc. Custom soundtracks give me teh hot.

who said it was gonna make xbox beat the ps2? It's just cool that it's coming out. I'm gonna buy it. Geez - crap on xbox why don't you... I think it would've been wiser for MS to secure GTA4, but something is better than nothing.

I think MS should shell out mega $$$ to secure Final Fantasy 12 as an Xbox exclusive. Then it would be game over in Japan... They'd sell 3 million Xboxes that day.

Make xbox owners(least the ones who never wanted to buy a system just for GTA) even more happy maybe?

Im looking at this as a nice bonus for xbox owners, i dont see this as a way to sell more systems. Thats what Knights of the old Republic is doing

Assuming this is more than a bogus rumor, that's exactly why Sony would let it happen to secure GTA4 as an exclusive.

GTA3 and VC have already sold all the consoles they're going to sell this generation, so Sony has milked them for all their worth.

If this happened, Rockstar probably threatened to put GTA4 on other consoles if they didn't let them port it, so Sony said screw it. It won't hurt PS2 sales, it will just make some X-box fans happy, and they get GTA4 to sell a ton of PS3s and again kill the competition.

It was confirmed in XBN also. It's going to be a Direct Port from the PC version so the graphics will be better and I would assume Progressive Scan. It didn't mention anything about GTA 3 being included though from what I remember.

May not be a system seller at this point, but who cares. As far as I'm concerned those who are worried about system sellers and sales stats tend to be a little too worried about it. I like competition because it makes the end product better and cheaper. I want the consoles to be supported so that we get better games, not because I'm worried if the console I own sells more than the console somebody else owns.

That's why my juicy tidbit was noteworthy - it's gonna include both games according to my inside source (works for a console company and is pretty high up on the corporate ladder)... I'm quite excited. If I didn't already own an Xbox - this would make me buy one, but I'm sure the rest of the world won't care. Xbox is dead in Japan and MS doesn't really care. They're launching XBox Live very quietly (in Korea I think) with a forcast of 5000 units sold. They aren't even really going to advertise it. That was option 'B' - Option 'A' was to promote the hell out of it - I think that would've been a better idea, but what do I know.

I will be buying it. If it is announced. I am only about 50% through on Vice City and never even opened III because I did not get my PS2 until after Vice City came out. WIll get rid of the PS2 versions and buy Xbox versions.

Graphics are not good on PS2 and dear god the load and save times are just annoying as hell. Hello hard drive. Good Bye PS2. If all this is true, I have to decide if I want to keep my PS2 - I guess a few other games are PS2 exclusive that I would like to play. Rachet and Clank and the sequel and GT3 & 4

Plus Rockstar is getting a HUGE exclusivity bonus for staying PS2 exclusive. Sony would never let Rockstar entirely, and Rockstar would never want to. This is just a loophole that lets Rockstar make more money. [/B]

That is one whale sized loophole.

Armchair or not I stand by my original statement that Sony's lawyers dropped the ball on this one.

Trigger's rumor makes a lot more sense than the "They'll just drop the GTA!" thing.

I have to agree groucho. I can't see any reason Sony would want to stop this from happening. All those xbox gamers who love GTA 3 and vice city on their xboxes will be so hot for GTA4 when it is released. I just don't think this is bad for anyone involved.

On a side note, I too will buy this. Having purchased but never finished GTA 3 and Vice City I can see myself having fun with these again, only this time with good graphics and custom soundtracks.

I agree with the few people who said that this wouldn't necessarily be a system seller at this point for the XBox ( anyone who would have really wanted to play Vice City would have done so along time ago). I think that the XBox and Microsoft have gained all the marketshare this generation that they are going to gain. But it does add a really good title to the game library for XBox owners.

whoa... that's really big news. Do you have any links to show that there won't be any more Xboxes sold?

I swear I saw it somewhere at www.scea.com

of course according to www.microsoft.com Sony is getting out of the console business so maybe one of them is wrong

You know what I mean. Only my opinion, not to be taken as "gospel". Of course I could be wrong, which I frequently am.

XBox's will be "sold", right along side PS2's and GameCube. But as to what percentage of the market share they can still gain I don't know. I'm not Kreskin.
