Whats the difference between Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City?
Is it worth getting both these games? Or are they pertty much identical and basically the same? I only ask because GTAIII is a GH and cheap, where as VC is currently more expensive. So is it worth getting both because they greatly differ, or would that be just a waste of time and money?

Different storyline, different setting. You can also use helicopters and boats in Vice City. But in terms of overall gameplay and quality of graphics they are about the same. Still, I thought Vice City was much cooler. The Miami setting and 80s style really helps the game. Plus, the voice cast in Vice City is INSANE. Ray Liotta, Tom Sizemore, William Fichtner, Luis Guzman, Gary Busey, and a bunch of other cool character actors. Sweet!

GTA3 advantages-
- better overall story (grittier, more serious tone)
- better mission structure (debatable)
- better city structure and environment (debatable)
- better vehicles (debatable, and smaller in number - cars & trucks, boats that aren't used much and a wonderful wingless plane you can learn to fly)
- you can carry all weapons at once, but have fewer to choose from
- lower price
GTA: VC advantages -
- more missions
- property to spend money on, and make money from
- larger, beautiful "Miami Vice"-themed city (not as well laid-out though)
- much better radio stations
- bigger variety of weapons, limited by type (adds element of strategy)
- more types of vehicles (cars & trucks, more useful boats, helicopters and MOTORCYCLES )
- better voice acting (Ray Liotta kicks ass) with more humor all through the game, both from the story/missions and the actors
Get GTA3 now as it's cheap, then get Vice City later. You won't regret playing both.

vice city has alot of fluff missions and the game is quite short compared to GTA3 which is cheaper and has a better story - plus, there's a slew of famous voices in that game as well.

I bought the PC version of GTA 3 and have played the ps2 version of VC. I cant seem to bail out of a car in GTA 3 like i was able to do in VC. I miss getting the nightsticks and guns quickly off cops w/o pumping up my wanted level by bailing out of a smoking car and letting the car explode near the cop in VC. Can this be done in GTA 3 or is it only in VC?

I find the PC version of Vice City to be far superior to the PC version of GTAIII. They must have done a much better job cleaning up the engine, rather than simply porting it. Performance is improved and so are the graphics. Also, Vice City held my attention much better than GTAIII did.

They are both definately worth having...but start with GTA 3. Vice City improves on GTA 3 in several ways gameplay-wise such that going from Vice City -> GTA 3 will be a slight disappointment.

That's what I did and you're right. Still GTA3 only cost $20 and it is fun to play.
