Star Wars Galaxies, anyone?

I am one of the many people greatly anticipating this game for the pc, and I've had my copy preordered for months now. Is anybody else as excited about it as I am? And another question--is there any truth to the rumor that Galaxies will be released on the 25'th of this month?

I've been looking at this one but not sure if i'll bite.

Is the monthly fee going to be $9.99? If so I might give it a try.

Let's say I want to be mostly solo (Like Boba Fet) but yet become powerful like Darth Vader does that work out in Galaxies from what you've heard?

I'm in beta atm, and well, the release date right now is the 26th of this month. Let me just say that there's no way in hell this should even be close to release until August. As usual though, it's gonna get rushed out the door...

That's what I hear is the plan, and there will probably be a huge number of patches after the release to fix the inevitable bugs. I wish Sony would hold off on releasing this, but with all the fans screaming for it(how long has this been delayed, anyhow?)they will release an incomplete version that could be so much better if they held off for a month or two.

As for the fee, I don't believe anything has been set in stone, but I would bet on somewhere between $10-$20.

It sounds pretty cool, but I've given up MMORPGs. They are huge time-sinks.

Rumors are that it will cost 15$-20$ a month, it is almost certain to be more expensive than the games released now although I don't see the justification for it. I can garantee that it will not be under 12.95$, they have no reason to make it lower than already released games.

If they make the release date that is posted everywhere, it will be a rushed release, dgmayor is right in that, but I won't go in details due to the NDA.

As for me, I used to be very excited about this game, but after playing the beta, I will not be buying it. The game is love/hate, there is really no inbetween and I do not see myself buying it upon release. When the NDA is removed, start a thread to ask the opinion of testers and I'll give a small review.

I'm doing Beta too right now and while it's great fun and all, there is no way in hell I'm paying more than $10 a month to play this thing.

Cripes, $15 - $20.

I understand the reason for fee's with MMORPG's but I think they are starting to charge some pretty hi fee's. I mean how can they not disclose the fee's with a retail launch in less then a month and still have a NDA on reviews. Pretty shady.

I'll just get Knights of the old Republic for 1 Player Rpg action for $50.

No reason? How about to get gamers like me that will pay $10 a month to play, but will skip it if it costs even a few dollars more.

The only MMORPG I've ever seen with a decent launch was Asheron's Call. They had everything down perfectly IMO. Enough game worlds at launch, decent patch size, etc. Everything I've tried since then, Mimesis Online, Anarchy Online, and read about: WWII Online, DAoC, etc. has crapped out completely.

I might have subscribed to AO if they were stable at launch, but no. Haven't heard as much about AC2, but I'm guessing they were pretty good.

Where do people come up with 15-20 bucks? It will be 12.95 just like every other mainstream MMORPG.

"Every other mainstream MMORPG" -- I don't know when they started charging that much. EQ, AC, UO, etc. were all 9.95 from the start. AO may have raised the bar to 12.95 (can't remember what DAOC launched at), but it's hardly a foregone conclusion when it comes to monthly fees. Even newer games like Neocron are still just 9.95/mo.

EQ, AO, DAOC, AC2 are all mainstream MMORPG's and are all 12.95 now, as is Planetside (which is grossly overpriced for what it is). Even Ultima Online will be 12.95 starting the end of this month. I Played EQ for 3 years from day one of release, so I'm well aware of what the price USED to be, but they've all gone up. I wouldn't consider Neocron to be a mainstream MMORPG, but hey, that's me. The ones I listed above imo are "mainstream".

Actually, the launch for DAOC wasn't perfect, but it was pretty good. Also, most of the changes for the first couple of months were positive things.

As far as Star Wars Galaxies, it could be ok, but after a year and a half of playing MMORPGs (first EQ then DAOC), I don't seem to be able to get interested in them anymore. They are too open-ended (as they kind of have to be, to keep you playing).

The 15$ a month was from the SWG forum... never confirmed but it's what they hinted at. Its bound to go up, but the only game that could make it go up is Everquest 2... no other game has the backing to do it while EQ 2 will have hundreds of thousands of people wanting to play it.

I hate paying for a game every month. I'd rather buy it once and play it whenever I want or else I feel like there is a quota i need to meet by the end of the month to fulfill what I have spent.

Trust me, when you get hooked into a MMORPG, $15/mo doesn't seem that much I know so many people who has multiple accounts on AC, they pay like $30+/mo, crazy. I maximize my enjoyment from only 1 account b/c I refuse to pay more...

It isn't that bad if the content is good and always something fresh to do. But sadly, most of the MMORPG these days are nothing more than a glorified chat program. Constant leveling up and camping for good items good game design.

I will give Sony credit for their new payplan they will be introducting soon. Individual games are 12.95, but soon you'll be able to pay 21.95 a month for unlimited use of Everquest, Everquest Online Adventures (PS2), EQ2 when it comes out, Planetside, etc.. 21.95 for all their games is actually quite a deal. Now if only they could devise a way to make the days longer so people can play all these games

Unfortunately, SWG isn't included, since it's being published through Lucasarts, so it's techincally a 3rd party game

Every MMORPG is bad on launch date.

12.95 is the norm for this generation of games, but 9.95 is the standard for older generations, and quite a few of this. The highest I can think of, off hand, would be Lineage, at 15 bucks a month.

My thoughts are exactly the same as Jack's... and Groucho's. They are huge sink holes of time, and I don't like the thought of myself paying money, and maybe not even playing the game much that month. If I was rich, maybe... but right now I'm not too interested.

See that's what everyone says, but it's just not true. Everyone always forgets about AC or DAoC or the like. Just because nobody else is properly prepared doesn't mean that nobody has had a successful launch.
