What PS2 games have the best replay value

I was thinking about getting another game for PS2, and was wondering if you guys could throw some ideas my way on which games give you the most bang for your buck.

I know both GTA's are in this category, as well as FF X, and maybe Kingdom Hearts, but are there anymore out there? Any hidden gems?

Dark Cloud 2 if you like RPGs. Over 100 hours of gameplay, some of the best graphics on the PS2, and high, high ratings from all reviewers. Plus it is only $39 retail.

I don't know how much replay values RPGs have... though you do generally get your money's worth the first time around.

Timesplitters 2 has a lot of replay value, if you like FPS's. It takes a long time to unlock everything, and it retails for 30 bucks now at most places.

Midnight Club 2 is pretty fun if you like racing games, since it's an open track for the most part, though still at 50 bucks.

Every once in a while I pick up Dynasty Warriors 4 (or 3, or 2) to just kick some butt. It does get old after a while, though.

And if you like sports, sports games probably get the most replay value (or they would if sports fanatics weren't compelled to get new editions every year... )

Contra:SS has tons of replay value, although it is rather short.

You don't need to play the first DC to fully enjoy the first. At least, that's what i've heard.

Yeah, I love sports game. They have infinite replay value.

I thought of trying Midnight Club 2, but I am not really into racing games. How is Hulk for PS2, anyone play it?

Or maybe NBA Street 2?

For me it's been the Madden series and recently Winning Side Eleven 6.

Ace Combat 4. I will never sell that game.

I also repeatedly go back to Gran Turismo 3.

DC2 has nothing to do with DC1 as I understand it, just the same (but improved) gameplay mechanics, rather like the FF series. It's a remarkable game with well over 100 hrs of gameplay, but it doesn't really have "replay" value. If you get through it once, pat yourself on the back and move on.

Amplitude is a terrific rythm game and I imagine you could go back and replay over and over, especially on the insanely difficult setings. It's well worth the $19 that Target is asking for it.

So it's more of a rental, then? I might have to try it out in that case.

The EA Sports Big lineup has some great titles that over a lot of replay value. I have SSX Tricky, which I still play frequently. I just picked up NBA Street Vol. 2 this past weekend and can't get enough of it.

GT3. I played that game for more hours than I did every other PS2 game combined. Just thinking about it now makes me want to dust off my PS2 and start up a new game.

I tried GT 3, I just couldn't get into it. If I was only into racing games.

I totally agree on Ace Combat 4. I can play it to death and still crave more.

Ace Combat is THAT good? I was dying to get it when it came out, but shortly thereafter I got an XBox and GC, and I've been busy with Metroid, Zelda, Splinter Cell, etc... I haven't dusted off the PS2 Since Vice City came out, but this game sounds like it may bring it out of retirement.

Oh, heck no. It's got over 100 hrs of gameplay so it'll take a good, long while to finish (I'm not even close, but you can't use me as an example as I get so little time with my PS2 on any given day). It even takes maybe 10 hours to even get into. I think it would make a lousy rental unless you had a LOT of time to play it. I certainly think that it's worth the $35 you'll pay to buy it at BB.

Now if you want a great game that you could probably finish in a long weekend rental, I'd recommend Sly Cooper. It's a very fun action platformer that reallly looks like an animated cartoon, blown into three dimentions. It's really impressive, but just too short. That's a great rental title.

Virtua Fighter 4 has tons of replay value with hundreds of unlockable rewards and lots of different gameplay modes, including a complicated AI training mode that I never even got into. It's a terrific game for $20, but I would wait, though becase as I mentioned in this thread an upgraded version will be available soon for the same price.

BTW: I've avoided Ace Combat 04 so far. I don't know why; I guess I just had other games I wanted to play. Maybe I'll check it out sometime now after all the glowing remarks here.

Anyone who makes a statement like that should go erase "oxy" and put the rest of that word on nametag and wear it around all the time.

As far as hiden gems go, I would highly suggest ICO. If you have not played it yet, your missing out on a great game as I'm sure most people on this forum will agree. The only gripe about it is that it was a little too short for alot of people but for the price that you can find it at now, it's a no brainer. Get this game. I still have my copy to this day and don't plan on getting rid of it.

I will also attest to the genius and beauty of Ace Combat 4. Because Sly Cooper is so short, I don't know how much replay value it's going to give you. As platformers go, maybe Ratchet & Clank will give you more value, especially if you try to get

Modern games, by their very nature, don't have much replay value. The whole cinematic game and all. And even if the focus is on gameplay, you can usually beat those games in a day.
