2d or 3d, what is your gaming pleasure?

I am a 2d supporter. When gaming hit the 32-bit level IE PS1, Saturn, etc. I felt that something was amiss with the new batch of games. It took me some time to figure out what the problem really was. Game developers had begun to sacrifice solid gameplay and story, for the latest, flashiest visuals. I felt this was a step backwards for gaming kind.

However now that we have systems like the GBA, we can now go back to exploring games that had depth and real intrinsic value.

Don't get me wrong, I do have games in the 3d arena that I absolutely love. And I imagine more will come and impress me. But give me a Super Nintendo any day, and you wont see me for weeks.

So Tell me what your preference is! And Let us know why!

Live Long and Prosper

Good games are good games. It doesn't matter if it's 2d or 3d to me.

A good game is a good game, but all other things equal I prefer 2D.

2D gaming has been refined and perfected, 3D gaming hasn't. For instance, I've yet to play a 3D game (first person games excepted) that didnt' suffer from camera problems that added unneeded frustration to the game.

I really do not care. A well done game is all I care about.

No preference. There are great 2D games, just as there are great 3D games. What I don't like, however, is how most 2D games have been relegated to Game Boy, while being practically nonexistent on consoles for the past several years. Thankfully, there seems to be a small resurgence lately. I'm glad to see games like Contra: Shattered Soldier, Ikaruga, Viewtiful Joe, and Gradius V still being made for home systems.

Homeworld is 3d, Starcraft is not.

I chose 3D, assuming all other things are equal. 3D allows for a more easily customizable view of the game, and a more interactive environment.

I get motion sickness playing 3d games...

I can get through about 10 minutes of Metriod Prime before I think I'm going to past out.

As soon as Duke Nukem came out, it was over... Doom 1/2 was alright right... no looking up and down and all around...

So I pick 2d.

i prefer 2d, i can go and play super mario brothers 3 for hours, but if i want to go play an early 3d game, it's just hard because the graphics look so bad, to me 2d games look great

3D, because there's so much more you can do. You just can't get comparable realism/immersion in a 2D game.

AMEN.

I think there were too many games for the SX that tried to be 3D when they should have stayed 2D.

I do love the cel shading done right in 3D games too. I always thought the best video game would be likeplaying a cartoon. Zelda the Wind Waker is a dream come true.

I voted 3D.

I just get more immersed in 3D games in general. The atmosphere in a properly done 3D game is great.

I have become very involved in 2D games, but 3D is my preference.

I must also state that classic platformers are not really my genre though, so that may cloud my opinion.

I will say that most of my favorite fighting games were 2D. The control for the early street fighter games was great.
