They both look good, but right now I'm voting for Half-Life 2. Although I'm just judging by the videos I've seen of each, Half-Life looks really impressive. Especially their environments.

I was a Doom 3 man for a while, but after seeing all the amazing HL2 movies, I'm sold. Plus I dont wanna buy 4 new 3ghz PCs and somehow link them together to get more than 12fps in Doom 3. Doom 3 looks amazing, but anything would with 1000000 polygons per model, just that no one will be able to run it properly.

I voted HL2... I think they will both be great games, in different ways, but just judging from the videos, HL looks like it will be more fun to play, especially with the amount you can use the environment to kill bad guys, and I prefer more realistic settings. Maybe you will be able to use the environment the same way in Doom 3, but from what I could tell, the gameplay looks pretty similar to other games ID has done, just with some really bitchin graphics and lighting.

I voted for Doom III. That along with the HALO 2 movie ruined me for every other game I've seen since. The dynamic lighting and textures look amazing.
Half Life 2 is mostly exciting to me for the new mods it will spawn.

The more interesting question is which game will liscence out their engine to more game makers. 2nd generation games always look much better than the original one did.

I was Doom 3 all the way up until I saw the gameplay footage of Half Life 2 from E3. After seeing those videos, I have no doubt that HL2 will be game of the year.
I can't wait til we get a beta at work.

ID has had major success because of this. This will be a tough race considering HL2 is suppose to be released with a modders dream kit.

I voted for Half-Life 2 (the graphics in this one really hit me out of the blue), but Doom III will probably sell more, if only because every games player has heard of Doom.

the resource hogging is going to either make or break these two. it seems that HL2 will be able to run on a high end system right now (well at the very least on some of the high end Graphic cards right now, were DOOM III seems like you will need a total upgrade just to be able to play the game in low quality.
How much one needs to upgrade in order to get the full extent, or at the least a enjoyable game play of the game will be what decides which of the two will sell more and in the end be more successful.
I look forward to both, but if I had to choose one.. HL2 would be the one for me right now.

HL2 is using the Half Life 2 engine..
it's a whole new engine.. Look online for a 500mb mov file on half life 2 and it will show you all of the footage that was shown at e3 including the physics part and lighting effect. It was very nice to check out.
Not sure how long this link will last, but it's a 200mb Divx version of the 500mb mov file..
EDIT: link is now dead so I removed it.
enjoy.

really? if i remember, valve licensed the Q2 engine for HL. i'm surprised that they were able to take their experience from that and create their own engine in 5 years. especially one that looks this good. well, playability remains to be seen. so far, john carmack has had a lock on that category (as far as i'm concerned), ever since D2.
