I don't see why a server couldn't be setup for this. The basic game engine and networking engine I'm assuming will be identical for both versions. Beyond that, all you'd have to do is setup a server. Even if they tried to block cross platform matches, I'm sure there's going to be a hack to get around it. Compared to the other hacks that have been done, this seems like it would a walk in the park.

In talking with people who work inside Microsoft's Xbox division - I got the answers to these questions. Doom 3 will work on the Xbox. It won't look quite as good. Reason? Pixel shaders. Xbox graphics chip has 1, Doom 3 for PC uses 2 to look that good. This is the same reason that Deus Ex 2 looks crappy on the Xbox and beautiful on the PC. Same reason that Halo 2 enables the shadow effects for the cinematics and then removes some of the shadow effects for the in-game graphics... it's actually quite seamless and difficult to notice, but it's there. Doom 3 will look great on Xbox, but not as good is it will on the PC. There's really no way around that. People have to understand that the Xbox isn't a PC. It's no more a PC than a PS2 is.

I don't know - maybe you guys already figured that all out, but I just couldn't read through all that bickering.
