Those are pretty sweet. I especially like the ones where it looks as if the bullets are splashing in the water. Really good effect going there.

Dang that looks good. Why is Snake still picking on Russians?

Looks good - I wonder if the entire thing will be set in the jungle this time; would certainly make a nice change from warehouses full of crates

But are they really going to call it MGS3: Snake Eater? I mean... come on... it's not that far removed from MGS3: Knob Gobbler now is it?

Well, snake eater is as term for jungle special forces, so that's where that came from.

You all notice that Snake is wearing an earpiece? I guess no more codec!

Oh and a poster on another MGS3 related thread mentioned that Snake Eater is a nickname for US Special Forces stationed in the jungle. To me that really cements the rumours that this game will be a prequel.

Is the full trailer shown at E3 (where I assume these excellent pics were captured from) available for download yet?

I guess jungle fighting comes before nanomachines implanted into the body.

I figured as much, bodhi. I'm just glad to see evidence that supports the suposition that this a prequel (I'm in no hurry to face the patriots but I will miss Raiden and I was kinda hoping that SOlidus would return as the next ninja as there have three of them already that I know of).

I saw the Gamespot has the 10 minute trailer but you need to pay a sign up fee to access it. Anywhere else has it available (for free)?

Wow, those pics look really great, especially the jungle scenes! Should be some awemose cut scenes in MGS 3. I enjoyed MGS 2, even though the story was a bit outlandish. I can't wait for this one!

That is not Solid Snake in those screens, it's Big Boss. The game takes place during the 1960s according to the trailer. Solid wasn't even born yet.

Now THAT would be a bombshell announcement wouldn't it? Good hypothesis

That last screen shot is amazing! No edges at all. All the surfaces are smooth and curved! Amazing.

Kojima also said that the game fully supports Dolby Digital 5.1 throughout the game (not only during cinemas!).

That would explain the use of a knife (as Kojima has always been very adamamnt about Snake not liking blades of any sort).

I hope you're right because it would be so cool to play a Metal Gear game from Big Boss' perspective. We may even see when and how the Les ENfants Terrible project began.

Grimfarrow,
Are you sure he didn't mean Pro-Logic II? I thought the PS2 was incapable of ingame Dolby Digital 5.1?

I read that it would be DD 5.1 too. I didn't think it was possible either.

Found this great interview with the man himself which reveals some great info. The finding food stuff and survival aspect doesn't sounds so strange now. Also the camo and broken bones (!?) stuff sounds cool.

He did say he is trying to have DD 5.1 throughout the game. The thing with the PS2 is that it is a very flexible piece of hardware that needs audio/video libraries built from scratch (as opposed to XBOX which uses existing DirectX tools and libraries for graphics). That's why you have seen games evolve and start to use progressive scan, in-game DTS etc. as developers come to grips with the tech more. So, 5.1 may be possible if they have found out how to work with the system. Would be a plus, but not a deal-breaker if they don't.

Looks awesome, is there any target date, later this year, early next year? And 5.1 ingame would really kick major a**.
