Metal Gear Solid 3 Exclusive for PS2

E3 2003: MGS3 Only for PS2

A real coup for Sony:

"May 13, 2003 - "We are delighted to bringing Metal Gear Solid 3 exclusively to the PlayStation 2. This franchise has a huge legacy on the PlayStation console and its third iteration, the advanced PlayStation 2 hardware allows us to deliver another groundbreaking title to fans of the series," said Geoff Mulligan, Chief Operating Officer, Konami of America, Inc. "This title adds to the strength of the outstanding PlayStation 2 lineup and gives us the opportunity to reach the world's largest hardware gaming audience at launch."

Andrew House, executive vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment of America, said "We are pleased that Konami continues to debut new Metal Gear Solid properties exclusively on the PlayStation 2, as the success of this franchise helped propel gaming to new heights on our platform. Considering the enormous installed base of PlayStation 2 worldwide and its continued growth, we are confident that Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3 will the biggest and best game in the series to date."

IGN will be back with more on Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater in just a few hours following Konami's E3 press conference. Be on the lookout for videos, screens, and info on the 12-minute trailer the company plans to showcase. Stay tuned."

No surprise here. MS is buying companies and Sony is buying exclusivity rights, these guys are getting gritty.

I completely agree pixyboi. The various sides in the console "war" are bringing out the big guns now, and aren't taking any prisoners.

Hey, just a thought here; but didn't Metal Gear Solid Substance sell very poorly on the XBox?

That couldn't have anything to do with the fact that everybody had already played MGS2 by that point, and the made for XBox Splinter Cell was kicking ass at the time of Substance's release?

Not to mention the slowdown during the first part of the tanker mission and that it was simply a port of the PS2 game rather than taking advantage of the X-Box's hardware to give it a nice graphics and AI boost.

Good points, but I was thinking more along the lines that Metal Gear's fan base is predominantely on the Playstation.
