Super Monkey Ball 3 announced!

According to www.the-magicbox.com:

Sega is developing Super Monkey Ball 3: Banana Crazy for GameCube, the 3rd installment of the popular action game. This time the game will have LAN support, allowing 8 characters to battle over the GameCube LAN cable. The game will be released in Q1 2004.

I have a feeling "LAN support" is going to be a key phrase from Nintendo at E3.

How dumb is Nintendo?

What kind of places would have enough consoles and TVs to do a LAN party on all these games? A frat.

And I'm sure most guys that age wouldn't be caught dead with a GC. *sigh*

Why can't they just deal with the concept of online gaming and join everyone else. They have a great system and great games but they don't make the most out of either. Morons.

Hey, Sony must've sold at least 12 of those link cables for the original Playstation.

If anybody on this forum is from Japan, can you please post here so I can have confirmation that they have the internet over there? I mean.. I can't think of any other reason Nintendo is so scared of it unless they just don't know what it is..

I agree that LAN is lame. But I also HATE online gaming so it's not an issue for me either way.

Plain old multiplayer with 2-4 people (or more taking turns) in the same room is more than good enough for me in the few instances that I actually want to play multiplayer. I generally prefer single player games about 95% of the time.

Sounds cool! I can't get enough Super Monkey Ball. Out of Sega's new franchises, this is the one I've had the most fun with. I don't know how I'd feel about online play, to me this game is a party game and all about inviting your friends over and having a blast. i don't think it would be as fun the other way but i guess i can see the concern . Sometimes on the weekends we have barbeques and SMB tournaments. good times .

Um, I don't think it was Nintendo's choice to do only LAN support on this title.
It's a Sega game...and they've already done 1 online game for the GC (Phantasy Star), so I'm not sure why they decided to do LAN only here.

Either way, I could care less since I won't be doing either one.
I think I'll just rent this one to play through the single player levels, and keep my monkey ball 2.

I love Nintendo. I hope they continue to concentrate on game development and continue to ignore an online gaming business strategy. Online gaming is a PC thing...I just dont think it will ever be successful in the console world.

I agree.. I mean, I logged on to Unreal on Xbox last night and there were only a few hundred games running, all 10 blocks on the first ship on Phantasy Star were full, and the longest wait for a challenge in Capcom vs SNK 2 was about 10 seconds.

I'm surprised they just don't shut down the service from lack of use.

Maybe by successful he meant profitable for the companies. X-box live is doing well, but it is unlikely that it will be profitable for MS (at least not this generation) given all the money they spent on setting it up and marketing it.

Hmmm. Thats Weird! I wanted to find more information about Monkey Ball 3, but couldn't find anything.

Even SEGA's official site announcing games for E3 doesn't list Monkey Ball 3:

http://sega.com/segascream/corporate...tentId=6800028

Anyone find out any additional info?
