dvd vs cd-rom version of pc games

My wife just got Schizm, and she had read that it's better to buy the dvd versions of the games.

What say you all?

In most reviews of the dvd version, they say that the dvd version has a higher resolution and so it its therefore the better, prettier version to get.

How does it have higher resolution? Practically all games have resolution settings. I've never heard of a PC game's dvd version being better, other than the fact it's more convenient.

I am just guessing here, but it could be that the resolution of the cutscenes are at a higher setting on the DVD-ROM discs vs. CD-ROM. Becuase you can't change the resolution on the FMV scenes.
