Devil May Cry 2, after waiting so long for it and "preparing" for it by spending hours and hours on DMC, I almost cried when I bought and played it the day it was released

Chrono Cross, though I wasnt too hyped about it, it was a huge letdown.

FFX, it was OK, nothing compared to FF8 which I loved and will smack anyone who disagrees with me .

Super Mario Sunshine
Zelda: The Wind Waker

edited to mention that I haven't finished either game, but so far they have been very disappointing to me.

Vandal Hearts 2. I absolutely loved the original (much more than FFT), but couldn't sit through more than a couple horus of VH2.

Tomb Raider 2. The first TR had absolutely awesome level design and atmosphere. All the following TRs had none of it.

Perfect Dark. Unofficial sequel to Goldeneye or whatever you want to call it, I found its missions to be quite boring compared to GE's.

What's the big beef with Devil May Cry 2? I found the first one fun in a "If I had a PS2 I *might* pick this up..".. the sequel sucks that bad?

The sequel isn't a really bad game, but it's not up to par with the first.

I also loved FF8. I don't understand what everybody hated about it? But, I also really loved FFX.

My most hated sequel is Spyro " year of the dragonfly " !!!
They really screwed the pooch on that one!

If DMC2 came out without DMC ever existing, then it is a half decent game.

DMC had a real gothic kind of feel to it, the surroundings were perfect for what they were trying to portray in the storyline and with Dante. DMC2 on the other hand you're all of a sudden in a huge city fighting evil tanks or something.

The game itself is extremely easy, after playing through DMC on Hard mode and a lot of Dante Must Die mode, the challenge just wasnt there, there was no strategy to defeating bosses except jump and slash, or jump and shoot.

My biggest beef with it though are the camera angles, at times you find yourself fighting off screen just blindly hacking and slashing for a while. They tried to make the areas so huge that sometimes Dante turns into what seems to be a small spec on the screen.

I have tons more to complain about but I will stop my rambling now

I liked FF8. Sure it had it's flaws, but some of the designs were pure genius i say! like how every monster gives you the same experience and they level up with you. Makes backtracking less tedious.

Well FFVI was my favourite in the series so I don't really bother comparing the others to it as they'll always come up short. That being said, I actually enjoyed FFVII. It's not my favourite (like it is for many of my friends) but I did enjoy it. Now FFVIII was a total letdown. The plot was non existant, the character development was totally ignored, and though I liked the paramagic, junctioning system, and the fact that monsters leveled up with you (keeping it challenging all the way) the game just had no oomph. It's like Square was content with the technical aspect (sure the cinemas and the graphicslooked nice) but really didn't strive to go beyond a pretty package. This is a game I really wish were revisited. Not to change the graphics but to add to the plot (new cinemas would not be necessarry) and work out the inconsistencies (para magic is okay for every other character in the game but not the so-called sorcerers, which were anything but). I can't say I totally hated this game but of the PS and PS2 era FF games it's the one I liked the least.

FFX is a close second. I dodn't regret purchasing the game but it's missing something and I absolutely abhor the cop-out International Version ending. The fact that FF x-2 endorses this ending is what makes me somewhat reluctant to play it (though a revamped job system makes it really tempting).

Gameplay?

My friend recently showed me a lot of stuff from FF X-2.. I'll always stand by that DAMN that looks good, but what he showed me.. the series has hit a new low and is never going to come back. I haven't been a fan since after 7, but still.. seeing what I saw made me want to cry.

The T&A aspect, right? I was upset about that too since the series never needed to resort to such low brow tactics to make a buck.

FFX has gameplay but I found the sidequest/minigames a lot more challenging than the actual battles.

Well.. that and the fact that the main character is a J-Pop singer, the only playable characters are female and you play dress up with them.. it just seems that they're really trying to sell this game to the overweight guys that spend all thier time reading or writing Final Fantasy fanfiction or look for pictures of the female characters naked, and probably spend 75% of thier daily time watching or involving themselves in anime of some type. That disturbs me for some reason, though I'm pretty sure it'd be better to just pretend it doesn't exsist. The T&A aspect has BEEN there.. at least since 7.. Tifa was an absurd character, and most every female character from 7 and beyond fell into some sort of lame anime stereo-type.

What I did read about the gameplay aspect of X-2 seemed interesting, if it really is a more open ended game, and of course, the job system is always fun (though I still think it essentially, from a gameplay aspect, eliminates the purpose of having more characters than you can have in one party.. but since it appears there are 3 and only 3 in this game.. go figure). If not for the things I mentioned above, I'd almost be willing to give it a try, if there was more old-style dungeon crawling, killing mosters gameplay than just boring plot after plot after CG movie after CG movie..

I would like to end this post by stating that Locke Cole is the coolest character in the entire Final Fantasy universe, and could take out sissy pretty boys like Cloud and Squak with thier "I'm overcompensating for something" large swords using the almighty thief dagger!

I didn't like the game, and it was a sequel. Therefore, it was a sequel that let me down. Slightly different though since my let down was based on the hype that the game received rather than on my previous experience (Yeah I know that isn't what the original poster meant, but I still put it down).

True about Tifa. I never much cared for her. Maybe that's why I was so upset when Aerith died. It just shouldn't have happened. I mean, did people suddenly forget how to use potions for that one moment in time? It's kind of like that scene in MGS2 when Vamp has Emma hostage. Snake is right behind them and not once does he fire. Ieven called him during that battle and he was just silent - not even offering some lame excuse why he doesn't shoot. That's just lazy writing. (I know this must seem hypocritical coming from someone who has played MGS2 countless times and never seems to grow tiredof it.)

I didn't know Yuna was a J-pop singer in FFX-2. As if she couldn't suckmore. Of the latest FF heroines she's the one I couldn't quite bring myself to hate but still didn't care for her much. I also don't get the whole hot pants on a cartoon character that doesn't have much of an ass anyway (did I mention she's a cartoon?) and though I'm glad they made her more of a fighter the change seems too extreme (though not unwelcome). And I hate what they've done with Rikku. She was the most likeable female co-star in FFX and here she looks like a crazy haired barby doll.

As for anime,it's not all bad. Like all forms of entertainment it has its fair share of crap (Gundam Wing and the much overated Wind Ninja Chronicles a.k.a. Ninja Scroll come to mind) but it does have some high quality stuff too (Jin-Roh, Railway of the Stars - I'm sure I'm misquoting that title but I'm not referring to the Galactic Railroad - etc.). Nowifyou mean hentai.... You may just have a point there.

Anyhoo, if this game sells well, you think square would make more FF -2 games? Like imagine a FFVI-2 with everything youlove from FFVI and even more to love generously added. That would be amazing.

I just hope FFXII is worth the wait as I'm not looking forward to FFXI (I don't really like MMORPGs).

Well, I wasn't really badmouthing anime (that's another thread altogehter ) I was simply stating the direction the series is going is to entertain the people that spend TOO much time with it..

They are already pre-planning a VII-2.. I think I last read that they were cautious about it because it's the most popular one and if they want to make a continue of it, will it live up to the original (quick answer: no). The concept of a VI-2 is interesting, but the sad truth is they would just create another boring CG movie-fest from it with childishly linear and easy gameplay and 100 mini games. I'd rather NOT see that happen.. besides, they're only looking at sequlizing VII and beyond as that's what is popular.

I myself like console MMORPGs.. IMO there's more to them from a gameplay aspect than the new-age traditional RPGs. However, PSO finally came out for Xbox, and with True Fantasy around the corner.. I doubt FFXI has anything to offer me that I'm not getting on the big green beast. I've heard the PC version requires a $3000 computer and 8 GIGS of hard drive space.. whoa.

I do have to wonder how well the game will do. They've built the recent fanbase off of mostly uninteractive, story driven games. MMORPGs from what I know are ALL game and very little story. I'm sure most people will play and enjoy it based on brand name alone. The sales numbers for the japanese version were depressing when compares to the 2-3 million the other games have sold. The online market is MUCH bigger here in the states though, but I still think they took they shot themselves in the foot trying to do something new with it.

Nostalgia aside, has anyone gone back and actually played Mario Kart SNES lately? That fake 3D effect is absolutely nauseating.

I've played the GBA version recently, which is pretty much identical. Sure it's rough compared to what can be done today, but that doesn't make the game any less FUN.
