Let the price wars begin!

jrutz 05-13-03 03:23 PM

EB Games, Gamestop, Best Buy all lowered PS2 prices to $179.99, although I can't find any official news on it.

that's kind of interesting. what the heck is going on?

Gizmo 05-13-03 03:26 PM

Wow, all 3? Very weird...especially since it hasn't even been announced. I expect to see Xbox $179 and cube $129 shorlty then.

That's what I wanna know...Im sure we will hear something by the end of the day.

Gizmo 05-13-03 03:42 PM

Incase it wasn't mentioned, EBgames.com is now advertising the fact of a 'new low price'. So it wasn't just lowered for a sale, its the new price.

EDIT: Gamestop now also advertises the new low price. Waiting for the other 2 systems to follow suite.

what ever happened to the $150? was it a hoax? not that i'm complaining because any price drop is good but i thought we had confirmed signs at gamestop or something.

Gideon68 05-13-03 07:05 PM

KBToys.com has PS2s for $179.99 too.

no just companies making a guess and ending up wrong. Of course maybe MS is the one who will drop down to $149.

Gideon68 05-14-03 03:17 AM

EB's got the X-Box for $179.99 now.

Microsoft Cuts U.S. Price on Xbox Game Machine 10%

By Dina Bass
Bloomberg News

Los Angeles, May 14 -- Microsoft Corp., the world's largest software maker, cut the price of its money-losing Xbox video-game machine 10 percent to $180 in the U.S. after rival Sony Corp. reduced the cost of its PlayStation 2 consoles.

Microsoft announced the cut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo video-game show in Los Angeles. Sony yesterday said it will sell PlayStation 2 machines with a modem for Internet gaming for $200 and units without one for $180 in North America.

Sony's console has outsold Xbox by about 6 to 1. Microsoft is investing $2 billion in Xbox and its Internet gaming service to grab share in the $27 billion market for video-game hardware and software as sales of personal computers slow. Microsoft was counting on the Xbox's built-in online gaming capability as a sales advantage over PlayStation 2, which had required users to buy a modem.

Hey does anyone know if they are going to reduce the price on Gamecube?

madcougar 05-14-03 11:21 PM

So refurbished PS2 will now be about what at places like Gamestop?

Gizmo 05-14-03 11:38 PM

Mad, they might drop $20, or still stay the same.

I assume Nintendo will Drop Cube to $129 shortly...
