I imagine the Nintendo free game deal will go on until whatever the deadline was on it. They recently extended it when they announced that Zelda would be replacing RE0 in a couple of weeks, but I don't remember what the end date was.

I'm sure the price drop likely won't effect the Mario Bundle or the X-box bundle as those are games packed in with systems, where as the other Nintendo deal is just pick one of 4 games when you buy your console. If the actual bundles drop in price, it will probably be by less than $50.

The promotion for Zelda runs until July.

Well this confuses things a bit. This is from a Reuter's article yesterday:

"We are very comfortable at the $199 price point," Hirai said. "The numbers are very healthy for the PS2 at the $199 price point."

This is from Kaz Hirai, president of SCEA, in a recent telephone interview.

I think they said the exact same thing last year right up until the price cut came down. Why not squeeze out a few more units are $199.

Exactly, it would be bad business for them to say "ok people, next month we will have a price drop, please stop buying our systems for this period time and wait for the lower price."

I'd like to see a price drop on the PS1 and monitor combo. I still have a few games that reportedly have problems with saving on the PS2.

Not that there was much need for confirmation, but the guys at my local Software Etc. said the home office has already sent them the signs for the price drop. They called it a "pre-emptive strike". I think the stores got caught a bit off guard last year when Sony beat Microsoft to the punch, so they're trying to prepare for it this year.

as much i do need a 2nd ps2, i'll gonna wait till the new ones w/ progressive scan start shipping.

The guy at the Gamestop near me said he doesn't think it's gonna happen this year. We'll see...hehe

Crazy for 400 bucks you can now get what I spent 800 on. Oh well.

In a couple more years, you can get all 3 for less than $200... just the way technology is. Today's gold is tomorrow's trash.

Yeah, I paid $299 for both Xbox & PS2, and I don't regret it one bit. There's NO WAY I could have waited this long to play GT3, GTA3, FFX on PS2, and Halo, DOA3, Morrowind on Xbox.

so... is there a price drop or not? i'm watching G4tv.com right now and the news says NO price drop on the ps2.

I am banking on the price drop of the xbox. I just went out and bought one since best buy had one with the date of manufacture I wanted...and they only had the one.

I am hoping for a price drop in the next 30 days so I can get the credit. I think its a sure thing based on what people here are saying.

try this,
you buy yet another xbox and hold on to it, then take it back before the 30 days using the receipt from your first one, you now get your money back and still have your first xbox, but now you have a receipt with a later date and you keep doing this till the price drop comes around.

and if they give you some crap bout the new price, buy yet another xbox with the new $149 price and take it back using the receipt with the $199 price.

and thats only if the new xbox models don't have a different upc bar code on the box.

Lots of stores (including Best Buy I think) record the serial number when they sell a system and will be able to tell that it's not the same system being returned.

We'll know when it's announced.

There's rarely, if ever, much headway in a reliable report of a price drop.

The companies keep quiet about them because they don't want to kill sales for a month, week or whatever before the drop as people wait.

Also, I wouldn't expect to hear anything from Sony. They likely don't want another price drop. They have a huge lead and the PS2 is still outselling the other consoles. They'll only drop prices after MS or Nintendo (or after getting wind of a price drop plan by one of them like last year).

they did not announce it today at their news conference

the only one who is likely to make a move is Sony since they have room to move down without losing money. The rest would follow. Maybe sales are good enough for Sony to hold firm on their price.

I think the X-Box bundle is being discontinued too. I've only seen the console box around.

Hmmm...with both MS and Sony's E3 press conferences over, and no price drops mentioned, it looks doubtful that either console will drop in price any time soon....

Yes, im surprised we heard so many people claim they got stuff announcing it when it never came true...oh well...

I doubt there will be a price drop, here's why
"U.S. sales of video game hardware, software and accessories fell in the first quarter from a year earlier as the impact of price cuts on consoles outweighed higher shipments, data released on Monday showed." - http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...mes_sales_dc_1

Will, I doubt Nintendo will drop there price first (They are already offering a free game with the system). So it would either be Microsoft or Sony... Most likley Sony. Hopefully they will do pack-in deals like Microsoft to help sell the system (Here's hoping for Jak and Dekter or Ratchet and Clank).

Somethings up. According to EB Games they are selling a new PS2 for $179.99.
