Nintendo.com poll: What do you want to see in the next Metroid?

Vote there so they get your input and vote here for the sake of discussion.

I went with a longer more challenging game. GBA connectivity would be ok if done right. I could care less about multiplayer, as I only play single player games. And side scrolling metroids are best left for the GBA IMO.

Bah, I don't want any of those.

I think I heard something about a talking computer. That would be cool. Playing Metroid was awfully lonely. I'd like to have some NPCs that weren't enemy monsters spread about.

Just to preface, I was totally skeptical about a 3D metroid before playing prime.

After playing it, my concerns went away. It and zelda are the only 2 Nintendo series to sucessfully make the transition to 3D IMO (in the sense of being as good as their 2D prequels).

I love 2D metroids, but I'm dying for another 3D GC Metroid, so I still say leave the 2D metroids for the GBA (especially with the GC adapter coming out for $40 next month).

The talking computer was in Metroid Fusion on the GBA, that's probably where you got that from.

I wouldn't be opposed to some NPCs, as it would add to the immersion somewhat IMO, and metroid games have always been lacking in the story department.

IMO that is what flat out RUINED Metroid Fusion (that and linear gameplay). If you want to talk to imaginary people I say pick up one of the 1000+ anime RPGs on the PS2. If you want story, read a book or catch a movie. The reason Metroid Prime worked so well was it's amazing gameplay. Having to be taken out of that amazing gameplay to be force fed a piss poor plot would be an insult to the finely crafted experience Retro Studios created.

I liked the added story in Metroid Fusion, I just didn't like the super linear nature.

I'm all for old school gameplay, but I'm also want to see modern ideas (like more detail on story and interaction with characters in the game) added into remakes of classics. Otherwise I might as well just not buy the new systems and just keep replaying the old NES/SNES/Genesis games forever since I don't care that much about graphics. As much as you bitch about 99% of new games, maybe that's what you should do.

I was pretty happy with Metroid Prime, so I chose a longer/tougher adventure. If they want to add GBA connectivity and multiplayer, that would be fine too.

I went with longer, moe challenging as well, just because that could means lots of things. Such as side "quests" (areas or items not needed for the main story), being able to go to various planets, locales with your ship when you want, etc.

I am sad to see multiplayer taking the lead though. And I too hope Metroid 2D stays on GBA and 3D on GameCube (I love both).

What happened to the space jump????
I'd like to see that in the next game -- even if it means you're not totally invincible.

I would like to see some side plots -- and some moving between different part of the galaxy (as already mentioned).

Also, where did the ability to launch yourself up and up and up with multiple bombs?? (more than just 3 total)--

Also... wouldn't a run mode with the dash that can be used to reach obscure places be good?? Like in Super metroid??? some type of charge jump etc...

I want to be able to beat space pirates over the head with my gun arm. Whack! Whack! Whack! Or would that be Clang! Clang! Clang!

I also found it wierd that we got all these cool visors but didn't have one that could zoom.

Also it would be cool if you could configure the controller.

Keep in mind this poll won't necessarily guarantee anything about Metroid Prime 2, they do these for fun, remember the Zelda poll they had awhile back about the different styles of Zelda. I was also surprised that multiplayer that so many people want multiplayer, it doesn't seem like it would work well IMO.

Then again, I said the same thing about Metroid Prime being in 3D and that game turned out fantastic. Who knows, Retrostudios already hinted a possible multiplayer aspect earlier. Metroid Prime really kept the claustrophobic and isolation mood of the series, not sure how it would work with multiplayer, but if anyone can do it and make it work well, Retrostudios is the one to do it.

I voted for bigger and longer adventure, which will be pretty big considering Metroid Prime was pretty long to begin with.

I voted for enhanced GBA connectivity. I normally don't care too much about that but if the next GBA Metroid game is as good as Metroid Fusion than I'll be owning both anyways next time too.

As for the other choices, I don't think Metroid would make a good multiplayer game, MP was plenty long and challenging enough, and 3D is the only way to go.

None of these, I would simply want NPC's who say something, hell anything, even if its just jokes amongst themselves, I was starting to really get bored with Prime around the end because it was just too quiet. You see an enemy, they fly , you shoot, they die and you move on.

with all of the b****ing about the lack of a multiplayer on these boards I'm surprised that is not in the lead. I do miss the screw attack but not sure how that would work in 3d.

voted for longer adventure

I think a more variety of things to do would have been good. There was just sooo much to do that I would get the "circus peanut" effect. You know when you keep eating them and eating them and eating them until all of a sudden you are totally sick of them. Then if there is still some left in the bag five minutes later and your back eating those darn circus peanuts. It would be nice if there was a longer game with more of a variety, but that would be difficult to do. Metroid is not exactly known for its various side quests.

Bah! Go buy a GBA. Give me more of that 3D goodness. Just make it longer and tougher. No multiplayer is fine with me.
