how can anyone take Gamespot seriously?
LOL! How can anyone take IGN seriously? IGNPS2 gives every game a 9 at least. Gamespot's scores may seem low at times but if you read the reviews they always give a good explanation for the score.

EGM and Gamespot are the only reviews I take seriously.

A 7.3?! Wow.. they must have got a person who hates driving games to review this one.

/me goes to read the review to see how that bogus score was "justified".

I read the review, about the only thing that could have remotely justified the score of 7.3 was "there are definitely more-interesting PlayStation 2 driving games on the market". With that he doesn't really mention why MC II isn't as interesting.

Everyone is entitiled to their opinion, but i completely disagree with this one, especially considering how the review doesnt justify that low score.

I completely agree in that I disagree big-time with gamestop on this review. Funny, because I agree with their reviews for most games and didn't understand why they disliked this game so much. It's an arcade racer and the reviewer went in almost expecting a underground racing simulation. It's waaaaay more san franciso rush than GT3 which is what makes it so much fun. It's sort of like having a Daytone USA 8-played arcade cabinet in your home. Also I don't see why the reviewer thought the powerslide friendly controls were unrealistic for an arcade racer. Ridge Racer, NFS:HP2, and Burnout all had simple physics and none of them were as fun IMHO.

I did agree that the front end was a little confusing and the options were hard to find, but I thought there were plenty of online options and other racing options. Also I didn't really find there to be excessive radio chatter while cruising.

For those asking, the online play has been flawless so far with NO framerate hitches even with all eight vehicles onscreen. Only once in my 20 or so online races did I notice a car "skip" slightly from one position to another due to network lag.

[RANT/] OK, my first negative post on this game after nothing but positive ones so far. The online aspect is fun because it's a blast to play against real people who make mistakes. If you are hosting a game and fall behind, quit restarting the freakin' game until you have a "perfect" race and are ensured a victory. [/RANT]

Just got to Paris. Damn the last LA race was hard.

I lucked out and won it by four tenths of a second.

I'm now stuck on the second Paris race...the last checkpoint is giving me fits!

Arg! If you're talking about Blog's 2nd race then I'm, stuck there too. The one where you have to race through Notre Damme at the end? I always end up crashing into the bloody wall when I jump the steps. The Integral car works well on this course.

I'll try it again tonight. Grrrrrr.... addictive though

Finally opened the game today. I like it (I've never played the first one), and it is much different than a Gran Turismo or Auto Modellista in terms of driving. It feels like your car is weightless, which does bring us back to the pre-Ridge Racer days when the physics of car driving wasn't so realistic and limiting. I do see how fans of the more realistic games might not like this. But finally a racing game I can just pick up and play!

First time through, I didn't even look at the manual. Didn't realize that the cars take damage (since other racing games have licensed cars, and the car manufacturers don't allow them to be trashed) and that you can do all kinds of stuff with the handbrake and shifting weight in the air. I'll wait a little bit before I start playing online, at least to get more cars and familiarize myself with the levels.

How much is the Logitech wheel? I haven't had many racing games in the past, and the last controller I bought just for racing was the Negcon for PS1. But with this, Auto Modellista, and the new Gran Turismo, I might pick one up (if it's compatible with all three).

Yeah, that was the one. I kept crashing into the church, as well. I finally built up a big enough lead at the end of the race that I was able to go around it and still win. So far, I'm liking Paris a whole lot more than LA...can't wait to get to Tokyo!

Yeah I stepped away for a day after I lost for the 10th time right at the end and was going to put my PS2 in the microwave!!! But then last night I beat it on my first try thank goodness. I like Paris way more than LA as well. Lots more shortcuts and jumps etc. Plus it's actually useful to use the weight-shift to pop up on two wheels to squeeze through traffic.

just picked this up last night with TRU's 2fer deal. I must say it's a very fun game, I played for about an hour and unlocked about 4 cars and then took a turn online. Online was very fun as well but the constant resetting of the games majes it a bit of a hassle. Once you start a race, you should not be allowed to re-start it, that kinda kills the momemtum. Otherwise, I'm glad i picked it up.

MC2 lock-ups!!!

OK, now I'm getting pissed. Seems like my game has started to lock up more and more often and I have to turn off my PS2 (with the switch on the back) and then restart. I've never had this issue before with any game!! Ugh! It really sucks when you're online with some cool guys who want to keep racing and the game locks up. Anyone else have this issue?

On a positive note, I played a great game last night on the Paris level, running only Cohetes (the first bike) through Blog's Eiffel visions course. That was fun!

I personnally returned it after about 3 hours of playing. I was bored. I also got tired of the cheese, such as cars that automatically come out after you pass a certain point, such as in one of the early missions on the interstate where the semi pulls out as you go down the ramp. I wouldn't mind it if the non racing cars got in my way becuase you both got their at the same time but to have it so once you cross a line the same car pulls out and only when your car crosses that line is pretty stupid. It reminds me of some of the FPS where there is no one around and then you cross a point and all of the sudden there are enemies behind you when there is no way unless they just magically appeared.

Don't mind me though I am really difficult on all games.

You can drive underneath the semi trucks in the game ala Fast and the Furious. The instance you mention is one of my favorite parts of the game.

Hmmm.. I might just start a new career to play that again.

And giving up on a game after only 3 hours, I wouldn't call that "difficult on all games", i'd call that SAS. :P

I bought this game just recently and was eager to enjoy it with my Logitech Driving Force wheel. Anyone else tried this game with this wheel?

Unlike other quality racers like Gran Turismo3, Need For Speed: HP2, and Burnout2, this game supports the wheel VERY POORLY.

It's almost as if the wheel was added as an afterthought. You nudge the wheel in either direction VERY slightly, and the car careens to the left or right. It's awful.

The game is pretty much unplayable with the Logitech wheel. SUCK.

I know you can drive underneath, but the fact that the semi doesn't appear until you hit a certain point is what I think is stupid. I have always had a problem with games that do that.

SAS? Sorry I don't recognize the abbreviation.

I have just found that I can tell a lot about a game in the first 5-10 minutes, and the fact that I even played it for 3 hours shows it wasn't the worst game out there or I was extremely bored. I didn't give up on the game I got bored there is a differance. I didn't find the game too challenging I just got tired of the programming crutches. I don't know I ran a video game store for several years and played every single game that was available domestically on all platforms, so I get a pretty good idea of the game in the first few minutes.

Funniest thing I've read all week! Thanks!

Anyone tried it with the NeGcon yet? Might pick it up if the game works with it.
