Splinter Cell Xbox bonus mission impressions

Edit to Add: It's available to download now!!!

Gamespot:

This Friday, (March 14) Ubi Soft will offer those who own the original version of its hit stealth action game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell a chance to download a brand-new, full-length mission for the game via the Xbox Live service...

Splinter Cell players will immediately notice Sam Fisher's slightly altered appearance for this mission. Specifically, Fisher can be seen wearing a black face mask that covers all but his eyes, making him appear even stealthier and more threatening than usual. Fisher starts the mission off with his trusty experimental SC-20K rifle, as well as his silenced pistol and various gadgets...

The mission itself picks up from the relatively high difficulty level where Splinter Cell leaves off. In addition to having to sneak up on and take out heavily armed Russian guards, Fisher will also need to bypass retinal scanners, laser tripwires, and other dangerous and high-tech defenses...

Brand-new voice-over has also been recorded for this mission...

The article mentions that the new mission can be downloaded via Xbox Live. I heard rumors that new downloadable such as this would be available on the demo discs distributed with Official Xbox Magazine. Can anyone confirm that?

Yes! Can't wait.

Fisher wore a mask during one of the later missions, if I'm not mistaken.

I believe it was the second last mission where you return to the chinese embassy. (where you start on the side of a cliff) that he is wearing his full mask.

I just finished the game a couple of days ago so everything is still fresh. Any idea how big the download is? Not that HD space is an issue. I had trouble downloading the MA levels. It took many retrys.

I don't see why they'd do that since it would weaken the selling points of XBox Live.

It's available now folks. It's 1928 blocks and downloaded pretty quickly on my cable modem connection and installed properly on the first try(i too had issues with the mechassault content working properly). Seems really cool so far. As far as being available on the OXM, supposedely it'll be available 1-2 months after release on the OXM discs.

Quick on my end. I'm still working on the 2nd Chinese Embassy just got past a hard spot (had to consult a walk through once )

I briefly checked out the new mission and it's cool as hell. Love the spider webs.

MOD EDIT: Your post has been removed. While bashing a service for its price is not the same as bashing a console, it is just as frowned upon, especially when you start a comment with a "Whatever." -namja

So is it a requirement to have a high speed connection just to download a map? I assume dial-ups can't play online.

correct. It is a requirement that you have a Live account to download the new content, and it's a requirement to have broadband to have Live.

Downloaded and finished it yesterday. The mission just ends and has no ending cut scene. I'd rank the the difficulty as low to medium when comparing with the regular game missions.....

I agree with JaxComet. The mission could have used a nice cut scene to end the game. The difficulty was not as hard as I would have expected. Do we know if more downloads are coming?

In a way I hope not. I'd rather that they spend time working on Splinter Cell 2 as opposed to more quickie missions for the current game.....

Did anyone have any problems downloading the mission? I keep trying but when it is about halfway through the download, it states that the download failed. It has done this more than 5 times. Anyone???

Nevermind. It finally went all the way thru about the 8th times. Must have been something with my DSL.
