Differences between Regular and "Greatest Hits" games on the PS2?
Target's Buy 2 Get 1 Free Greatest Hits sale has prompted me to buy several games for the PS2 even though I still don't own one. I'm still waiting on the (unconfirmed) price drop on the system.
One of the games I picked up was Silent Hill 2 since I enjoyed the first one quite a bit. In the back of the box it has a section titled "Extras Included" which lists the following features:
Additional playable character (Maria.)
More secrets revealed
New areas. weapons and items
Enhanced graphics and lighting effects
My question is, are these features not available in the non-Greatest Hits version? And if so, do any other Greatest Hits titles have any extra features that aren't available on the original? Is there any difference between the Greatest Hits version on the PS2 with the "Restless Dreams" on the XBox? Any clarification would be appreciated. TIA

Haven't played either, but I've heard that the XBox version of Silent Hill 2 is much better than the PS2 version (at least in terms of the sound, and maybe the lighting--don't know what else).

I think the Greatest Hits games are exactly the same as the original release, although the art on the disc itself is removed in most cases and replaced with a more generic black on silver title.
I think those features are the same as the original release of Silent Hill 2, but I sold mine long ago so I can't say for sure.

The Silent Hill 2 extras are the Xbox features I believe. Maria was the extra playable character in Restless Dreams in a short section, and that could be what they refer to as extra secrets, etc.

The Maria scenario appeared on the Xbox version. They put it on the PS2 Greatest Hits with no announcement of any kind. I don't know if any other releases have extras or fixes.

occasionally there are improvements made on the greatest hits titles....the two biggest have been mentioned...
crash has significantly improved load times from the non-GH version while silent hill has added scenarios from the xbox version (not sure about the silent hill graphical improvements)

All the additions that were in the Xbox version of Restless Dreams are in the Greatest Hits version. I didn't even know they were going to update it until I read about it the night before Black Friday(when I bought it at CC).
