Xbox: Memory Cards and Their Utility

Some have said that they're useless...
But I got one b/c I didn't want to lose my 28/50 dossier in GR if my xbox crashes.....am I missing something here?

Or do I just have more disposable income? (Not really)

I keep my DOAX Beach Volleyball save on my memeory card along with a few other game saves. I'd hate to dump all those freaking bathing suits and have to start all over.

I mainly put my FPS game saves on there in case I travel to a friends house.

How much can a memory card hold?

Enough for like 20+ games including the 2k3's?

With the hard drive the memory card really is only useful for (IMO):

- having a backup of a saved game if your drive crashes
- allowing you the ability to take a saved game to another xbox
- taking your xbox live account to another machine

Yeah, i only have a Xbox memory card as a backup in case the harddrive fails. When Target was clearancing the Madcatz memory cards, i picked one up for $10.

Depends on the size of the files. The memory card is 8 MB, roughly 500 blocks. One Splinter Cell save almost fills the card, but most games take a lot less space.

i have a memory card... it's collecting dust. i made the mistake of thinking that i needed it when i bought the system... of course, i blame the sales guy for NOT telling me that it wasn't necessary. (jk)

when I bought my system at Best Buy, the salesman tricked me and told me I'd need a memory card. Actually it wasn't til I got home and thought about it that I realized I'd never need it- I returned it the next day when I had to go back because they botched the receipt for my free DVD remote rebate. Love that Best Buy.

I got one as part of an Xbox bundle during release and then another for free for beta testing Live. Both of them remain untouched.

Any idea why the Splinter Cell save is so big? There's not much to keep track of, unless I'm missing something.

There's a small handful of games that wont save onto the memory card at all - nor can you transfer that certain game's file onto one either.

yea, I only use mine mostly to save my Xbox Live account to other friends houses, or just certain games like Nascar or Tiger Woods when you have a profile made.

I would definitely pick one up if you can find one for under $5.00, Target has them on clearence alot it seems. Plus, It may be the only way to transfer your saves to the Xbox Next when it comes out too.

Ha! Ha! Yeah, I know that it's really not much compared to those who've unlocked everything, but my job just won't let me play as much as I want...or I just suck!

Well, one save file contains 3 save slots, and the game keeps track of every light you shoot out and the location of all the bodies of the people you killed or knocked out. Also, the developers probably didn't put much effort into compressing the save files because of the Xbox hard drive. The PS2 and GC versions will have to have much smaller save files.

That makes sense. I didn't think about the lights and bodies.
