need help with GTA 3 for PC

I bought GTA 3 for my PC and installed it without a hitch. The only problem is that the control of the guy is awkward and I think that something is wrong. Basically, the game seems to default to where the guy is constantly walking.. and unfortunately, the guy keeps walking backwards. I have tried moving forward, but all he does is just stop and then when I remove my finger from the key, he continues to walk backwards. When I enter the car, everything moves the way it should.. front back, right left.

Hoping to solve the problem, I downloaded a patch, which didn't do anything.. and I even messed around with the classic vs normal configuration (all that changed was looking at him head on, vs looking at him from the back). So, could someone help me out? I'm dying to play this game.. but its impossible to move around my having the guy keep walking backwards!

Sounds like a joystick issue. Do you have a joystick/gamepad connected to your PC? And if so, has it been properly calibrated?

indeed sounds like a gamepad calibration issue. Go to the game controllers control panel and see if calibration helps.

wow! thanks for the advice! It turns out that I had an old joystick attached in the back. Once I removed it, I was able to play the game just fine! thanks!
