The smart thing for EGM to do would have been to admit it was an April fools joke later on in the same issue .That way The internet wouldn't have gotten flooded with people trying to get it to work.

I'm sure if the internet was as populated as it was back when the street fighter apirl fools trick was around, then it would have been flooded aswell with questions and folks trying to do it.
