Even though it was much bigger in Europe than here, I loved Serf City / Settlers, which I bought in 1993 or 1994. Never heard of it, but was in CompUSA and saw this cute little box, with little serfs on the front. It seems dated today, but I still think it's the best game in the Settlers series. Must have played that a couple of hundred hours.

PIRATES - Never got tired of taking over ships and sacking cities. Boy did I learn the layout of the Caribbean Sea.
and the old PC version of Car Wars...I can't remember the game's actual name but it was based on the Steve Jackson Role PLaying game. You bought a car did courier jobs to make money. If you got killed you better have a clone of game over.

Back in the days of Ultima IV - VI, Origins also made quite a few interesting games. There was another game by Origins that I just can't seem to remember the title. It's a ninja-type game which you're trying to save the people from a tyrant. You have to find elusive animals for spell components, help out peasants, fight guards and evil warlords, liberate shrines by defeating the evil monks. The maps were split into the realms of earth, water, wind, and fire. The game also came with a cheesy Japanese bandana...

Man, nearly all of my favorite PC games are from back in the day. IMO, the first half of the 90's was the best time to be a PC gamer. I started gaming when I got my first PC back in 1991.
Some favorites games from back then:
Ultima 7: The Black Gate
Star Control 1 and 2
Civilization
Sim City 2000
Wolfenstein 3-D
Commander Keen series (specifically Episodes 4-6)
Duke Nukem
Dune II
Speedball 2
Kings Quest 6
Space Quest 4
The Adventures of Willy Beamish
Conquest of the Longbow
Day of the Tentacle
Sam and Max Hit the Road
Full Throttle
Pirates! Gold
The 7th Guest (the reason I and many others bought a CD-ROM drive)
Alone in the Dark
The Incredible Machine
Under a Killing Moon
The Pandora Directive
Gods
Links 386 Pro
X-Wing
Tie Fighter
X-Com
Syndicate
Crusader: No Regret
Crusader: No Remorse
Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom
Mantis
Lemmings
Master of Magic
[edit]forgot to add Master of Magic. What a great game that was.[/edit]

My favorite games on the C64 were any of the Zork text adventures, One On One: Larry Bird vs. Dr. J, Lode Runner, Castle Wolfenstein (the original!!) and a baseball game that's name escapes me (Star League Baseball maybe?).
On the PC, my early favorites were any of the Sierra adventure games: Kings Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, etc. and the original Links golf game.
