If PS2 or XBOX reaches $99, I'd probably buy one, though at this point they are still way too expensive. I'm getting buy with just playing starcraft and UT

$199 is the most I've ever paid for a console. I got the GC at launch for that price and waited until the PS2 dropped to that price last may before picking one up.
For $99 I'd strongly consider picking up an X-box. I'd still probably talk myself out of it though as I really don't play games enough (do to waning interest and lack of free time) to justify getting a third system, and there's only two games (Halo and Panzer Dragoon) that I really want on it so far.

Got an X-Box already. Will probably wait for price drop to get a PS2, not in a rush right now. As for the GC, depending on when the free game promo ends and the price drop occurs, it'll still be the same deal if you buy any of the four games at regular price. Buy the GC for $100 + $50 for any of the promo game titles = $150. Of course, if the price of the GC goes under $100 or any of the 4 games drop below $50 then you will save money.

I don't think it's worth saving 50-100 bucks and be without a console for 2-3 years. Now.. buying one and waiting for the others to drop makes sense to me. But waiting for a drop to $99 before you buy one.. not really worth it.

As soon as Gamecube drops, I'm getting one. As for Xbox, I'd get one, but it would have to go to $99. I don't think I'd buy one for $150 unless it still came with two games and a controller.

I was going to wait for the 'cube to drop in price, but I couldn't resist picking one up with the current promotions - ended up with a 'cube, three games, and a memory card for $171 (mario sunshine bundle with BB's two free game offer - Metroid Prime & NBA Street). Even if it drops to $100 sometime soon, thats three games for $71...

Yeah, it's unlikely that you'll find a better deal on the GC with three kick ass games (two of which still sell for $50) and a memory card anytime soon. Probably not until the next gen systems are out.

I might be tempted to pick up a ps2 if the price dropped on it. Now where to put it in my already crowded entertainment stand will be a whole different story

Well in the case of the ps2, no I wanted tha when it hit 200, picked up the Gran Turismo 3 bundle for 220 and called it a day. I was going to wait until the GC hit 99 but I was surfing ebay and a guy had a buy it now of 104 plus 10 dollars for shipping, good enough. But when the xbox hits 99 someday i'll be on it, I want to play Shenmue 2 and Halo.

I wait for the middle drop not the last drop. I picked up all systems at Christmas on Toys R Us combos and made out quite well. If you actually want the system its not really that much money. Like two days work if you have a bad job.

I don't think you'll see $99 for at least 2 years. Just MO. I think the $150 drop which may or may not happen this year will stick around until the new consoles come out in 2005. Then when they come out or maybe just before, $100 will be the new price and they will sell for $100 unlike the current $50 PSX and N64. Well the GCN will probably be $50, but not the other two.
That's a long time to wait. If I was very low on money, I would still go out and get one when the next price drop ($150) just to get Halo 2, PGR 2, GTA4, and all the AAA Nintendo games come out this year and next year. Unless I was a masochistic or something.

I'd buy a Gamecube for 50 bucks... I plan on buying an Xbox 2 at launch provided the launch titles are worth it. I also plan to purchase a PS3 at launch for sure because I have a few PS2 games that I like - I just can't justify buying a PS2 because my roommate has one. I have an Xbox and a Dreamcast (that I got for 50 bucks and rarely touch) and I spend most of my time gaming on my PC.

If I order $2500 of stuff from Phenomenex (my chromatography and SPE column supplier), I get a free Xbox.
So far, I've found $1800 worth of columns and tubing to order.

Keep in mind, if you're going to wait for the XBOX or PS2 to drop to $99.99 before you buy one, then you should also expect to be using them to play old games.
These two units will reach this price point most likely around the launch of their next generation counterparts (most common speculation at this time is Q4 2005). At that time, there will be very few (if any) new game development for them.

I'd probably buy a Gamecube now, since basically it's $100 (since you get a choice of free game from some actual good games) but I've already got a ton of games to play on my PS2 and XBox (and even on my Dreamcast), so no rush.
