Does that also mean Nintendo will lower their price on the Gamecube for $12 at TARGET with a coupon printout.

The PSOne underwent this change after five years. The Xbox, on the other hand, has been around for 15 months, and is already being re-designed. The original controller was a horrible design(the S isn't much better because of the button placement), and I hate the size/shape of the current Xbox. This is something that is long overdue - long overdue, as in they shouldn't have released the Xbox in such a horrible design in the first place, but something much smaller, IMO.
Anyway, I'll pick up the new model.

It's bound to sell a few more consoles to people that have bitched about its size. I'd have been unlikely to buy one even after a future price drop as the size of the current x-box makes it tough to fit in my home theater setup. The new redesign should eliminate that issue and make me at least strongly consider picking one up after another price drop.

I bet they do cut corners on the new one though (guts wise) to try and make some $$$

Well the guy that said they should wait was making his argument from a business standpoint.
If MS wanted to maximize profits, then it would be best not to put out a new x-box as the R&D costs will likely outweigh any profits from additional sales earned specifically from the smaller design.
So he wasn't really bitching at MS, but rather simply saying it isn't good business sense.
Personally I applaud them for listening to consumers and making a change, something I haven't seen them do in the past (in computer software anyway).

We don't, and I don't think anyone's implied that.
The only cost I've seen mentioned is R&D costs in developing the new model. I suppose it could be cheaper and help outweigh these and cut down on losses. But in reality the smaller model probably won't generate many sales on it's own. I mean there can't be that many people out there that aren't buying one now because of it's size, or even many like me who list the size as a minor strike against picking one up.

I still don't see where it was implied. Maybe your reading too much into a comment as you and other x-box defenders tend to do.
As for R&D costs, that's anyones guess. But its still a cost that likely won't generate many sales as I doubt many people will buy a smaller x-box that wouldn't have eventually picked up the current model.
But again I personally applaud them for listening to consumer complaints and doing something about it.

Where was it implied that I'm an X-Box defender before you implied it? That implication isn't necessary one that one should imply when it's not necessarily the type of implication that's impliable when it's not necessarily implicitly true.

We'll since the cat's out of the bag, I post as Trigger when talking about the X-box. Fun to argue with myself too. When I really want to get into a good flame war I post under Joltaddict and then argue with myself.
