Unless I am completely wrong you guys are drooling over the wrong game. i believe this is F-Zero: AC. As in Arcade. That was what the pics were labeled at IGN right? I can't remember. F-Zero: GC pics are what you need to be on the lookout for.
quote from IGN:
Since that time Nintendo has revisited its F-Zero franchise on several of its other platforms, including a sequel on N64, an ill-fated expansion upgrade for the 64DD, and most recently a fun-filled romp on Game Boy Advance. And now the giant is teaming up with Sega's Amusement Vision to co-create two new, but similar versions of the hover-racer -- one for the arcades and the other for GameCube. F-Zero GC will release first, according to Nintendo, with F-Zero AC set to debut in the arcades shortly afterward.
So there are two different games. These pics are from the arcade version. Which would explain the vastly superior graphics.
My mistake, just checked IGN these pics are labeled GC. Count me as surprised.

They look great, I imagine the game will scream. Does that first one look a little pre-rendered though? Not sure if it is or isn't, but it looks out of place compared to the other screens.

Yes, F-Zero AC is a Triforce-board game. The whole idea behind the triforce was that they would design the games for the arcade, then be able to port them easily to the GC without losing much of anything, because they're designed similarly.

For those who may have missed them, I'll add these old camcorder videos IGN took of the game from back in October 2002:
F-Zero GC video #1
F-Zero GC video #2
It's obvious by the new pictures in the first post that Sega has somehow improved the already great graphics (as seen in the old videos) even further! I can't wait for this one!
