NHL2K3 PS2 - How do you start a fight?

I've been playing the PS2 version for several weeks now and I have yet to see a fight. I jacked up the fighting meter to full, and I even tried raising the penalty option. Raising the penalty option just caused the refs to call everything, still no fights. I've been playing with the Flyers and use my checking line quite a bit. I figured if anyone will start a fight, it will be Brashear or Fedoruk. Every opportunity I get, I check someone to the ice. Has anyone else successfully caused a fight? And how did you do it?

I read that there are very few fights in the game no matter what you do.

I heard the same about NHL 2003. I myself prefer less fights, it slows the game down. Then again, if they were more realistic, I might enjoy them.

No. In NHL 2003 there's usually 1 fight per game on the default setting.

I myself prefer less fights
That's what the sliders are for. They just don't work in NHL 2k3 apparently.

in NHL 2003, there's 1 fight per game no matter what setting. Totally unrealistic.

Set fighting to 10 and then just hope two of the more goon-like players meet up on the ice. When there is a fight, the people involved will make perfect sense... no Mario Lemieux vs Paul Kariya battles will be found here.

And exhibition does indeed seem to have less fighting than season or online play on Xbox, at least.

Yes I am. And that does make sense. Does the same thing happen when you play a quick game with another person instead of the computer?

I go many games between fights in NHL 2003 and when I do fight, it is usually because I laid a big hit into someone's back. The fight itself is unrealistic and the computer won't throw the first punch, so you can just stand there with your fists up and get hit with the 2 minutes instead of the 5 but it isn't as bad as 1 per game.

I've also played through a half season of NHL 2k3 without a single fight. I have read on other boards that fights often happen if you set the slider up to ten for fights and ten for fatigue affect - most teams have their goons on their fourth lines, and the default fatigue doesn't tire the first three lines enough for the CPU to bother putting their fourth line on the ice.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I need to take the plunge and start a season, rather than playing pre-season. A friend of mine mentioned to me that if you move the R3 stick down during play it reveals an aggression meter. He suggested trying to tag someone who is also pissed off. I'm going to try that too...

Since my last post, I've played 3 more games and gotten into fights in all 3. Nolan vs Hatcher, Morris vs. Smolinski, and Foote Vs Deadmarsh

I started playing a season last night, and in my first game two fights broke out. The first time it happened, I didn't know what was going on, and my player got creamed. It resulted in a 5 minute power play though The 2nd time, I saw it coming and Primeau was getting destroyed at first, but then I blocked the punches and started whaling on the guy until he hit the ice. What setting do you guys usually use for the camera? I use RINK because it seems the overhead is so far away...
