Not trying to start any console game wars here. I just got a Gamecube back in November because of that SMS deal. I started to regret it when I saw all the PS2 titles available, and XBox Live debuted. The WORST thing was that it seemed EVERY single game was priced at $49.99 including the crappy titles. Well, it looks like they're finally getting aggressive in the pricing. In this past week, I already went from 2 titles to 5. Got Eternal Darkness for $19 (an incredible steal), SSX Tricky for $14.99 (also a great deal...FUN game), and Metroid Prime for $39.99. When their average game price starts approaching $30, I will be buying a LOT more titles. I think I'm not the only one too. Hopefully, their sales volumes are going to skyrocket now and they start lowering prices across the board.

I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't done a Player's Choice thing like they did on the N64. The lowered prices seem to be stores clearing out inventory. There are a bunch of PS2 and Xbox titles I've seen with big price mark downs as well.

I've gotten a ton of cheap games lately, more than I'll have time to play for a while, but I agree with everyone else that Nintendo doesn't have much to do with it.

and hopefully nintendo will release a good variety of quality games in '03, so youll get some more play out of your GC! (its the only console I own, and im defiantely satisfied)

I dunno. I think Nintendo must have at least some INFLUENCE on the pricing. For most of 2002, while Xbox and PS2 games all had bargain basement prices for some titles, GC games were almost all $50. bargains were REALLY hard to find.

That's probably because the GC wasn't selling so well, and stores didn't want to lose more money on discounting the games further.

How many Nintendo first party games are discounted. Last I looked, Smash Brothers and Pikmin were still selling for 49.99.

And they get a big thumbs down from me for their lack of an online plan. Also gets a boo for separate broadband and dialup modems.

Sony has both built into their modem.

EA especially seems ready to discount their GCN games. SSX Tricky's been cheap for a while, and NCAA, Nascar go for 19.99, with Madden, Fifa, and NBA Live going for 30 to 40. Of course, a lot of these are seasonal games so I can understand why, but Fifa for PS2 is still 50 bucks most places.

I did initially think that the thread was about Nintendo finally coming up with an online plan. I mean, PSO seems like a great game and all, but I'm not spending 50 bucks for the game, 30 bucks for the modem, and 9 bucks a month for it. Now if the modem would support something else, I'd invest in a heartbeat. Otherwise it looks too much like another failed peripheral.

I agree....I picked up ED only because of the price reduction. Strange that they have lowered the price on this title afer only four months on the market.

There was no real price reduction on ED, only certain retailers have lowered its price. Amazon.com for example still sells it for $50.

ED came out in June, if I remember correctly. So it's been out for more than 4 months. Plus, as GP says it's not a price reduction per se, but just certain retailers clearing out stock.

It's a sweet game, my 3rd favorite GC game so far behind Metroid and Mario.

Yup, unfortunately I don't think it sold very well and it ended up getting lowered in inventory by a few places. I remember only a couple months after it was released BlockBuster had it used for $20.

This is probably due to the fact that Nintendo had to fork over piles of cash cuz they lost an ongoing lawsuit about them fixing prices.

I doubt it. The price fixing was done in Europe, if I remember correctly, definitely not the US. And I believe they had set aside a large chunk of money in advance since they knew they would have to pay it out. More likely stores are just trying to get rid of excess stock leftover from Christmas before the new stuff comes in.

You can just go to a Best Buy store. I'm assuming the sales apply to all their stores. But I might be wrong.

Nothing blind about it. It's a GREAT game. I don't scare easily, but this game freaks me out.

And it's kind of hard to find a copy of PSO anywhere. And if you do, good luck finding a modem. I haven't seen it yet. Don't forget about the keyboard everyone is saying you should get for PSO. I've never even seen what it looks like.

Anyhow, yeah, I'm hoping Nintendo comes out with some online game service that serves several games and you pay a flat $9 fee to play any of them. I'd easily find that worth it.

Its stores reducing inventory after the holidays. Same reason many PS2 and Xbox games are cheaper as well. Games that didn't sell well are being marked down. Stores need to clear up room for new titles. Thats why you see all these markdowns on older games. The EA sports game markdowns were due to poor sales of sports games on the GameCube. I'm sure most of the other marked down games weren't selling well or were older titles they need to move out to make room for new games.

I Thought Eternal Darkness (GC) $19.99 for Online Only. My Local Best Buy still have Price tag for $49.99 .......wonder.......how much when it RING UP at Cashier Register ???
