Nintendo Wavebird vs. G3 Wireless (with rumble)
Does anyone own the G3 Wireless?
It seems to work on the same "RF" method as the Wavebird, so that's good
The G3 has the Rumble feature though.
I am interested to here anyone who owns it (or read reviews on it)
Does it have a good FEEL to it, like the Nintendo 1st party controllers?
How fast do the batteries wear down when you the rumble?
Anything bad about the G3 compared to the Wavebird?
I REALLY want a wavebird, but I have gotten so used to the rumble feature.
Any input guys?

That is all I found via Google. The review I refered to was from GamePro, Game Informer, or one of the other vid mags.

Thanks for the link.
It was totally contradicting what you said earlier, then I noticed that reviews was FROM the controller maker's website.
I would love to go wireless, but having no rumble bother me
If you could find that other review, that'd be great!
Cheers!

The regular G3 sucks. The analog stick isn't as sensitive as the Nintendo ones, making games that require precise control (like Super Monkey Ball) impossible to play.
I'd just get a Wavebird.
You do lose rumble (which I don't care about), but you also have to consider that having rumble will drain the batteries a lot quicker.

Well, I actually bought one of each to test them out. I too really wanted rumble with my wireless. I found the G3 to be only marginal. The battery compartment is arranged differently forcing me to hold the controller differently than I would hold the Nintendo wired version. The Wavebird is designed so that the way your fingers rest is just about the same as its wired counterpart. A big plus in my book. Also, as mentioned earlier, the stick is not as sensitive and the buttons seem a little squishy to me.
I decided that the rumble just wasn't that important (in most games). I took back the G3 and bought 3 more Wavebirds and played 4 player SSB:M for hours and no one ever commented on the lack of rumble.

Unfortunately, Nintendo is one of the only game companies that actually use the rumble as part of gameplay. (as well as the great MGS rumbles...)
Some of the Mario Party 4 minigames are based on your timing once the controller rumbles. It can be changed to a visual cue, but it's not the same. The coolest is the mushroom medic game where the rumble is used to mimic the stethoscope sound when placed over a patient.
And, all the 3D Zelda games have used the rumble to indicate proximity to a hidden item. Wind Waker will probably be the same.
I think the rumble can be annoying when it's just mapped to being shot or engine rev, but it's pretty cool when it's integrated into the game.
I'm sticking with the conventional Gamecube controllers until there's a decent wireless controller with rumble.
Hopefully Nintendo will decide to make some colored Wavebirds and add rumble support. If it drains the batteries too much, they could always add a toggle switch.

Great- This review really recommends it.
I am tornaye aye aye...
I think I might have to go with the dvdtalkers and ignore the 2 positive reviews I saw.
You guys have not let me down yet
updated to add: I got the wavebird. I'll let you all know what I think, when I bust it out for some Metroid later tonight. Take care!

I love the Wavebird and haven't missed the rumble at all. I typically turn it off anyway. I have played Mario Party 4 and I didn't have any trouble catching the fish or anything else without the rumble.

Okay, everyone is going to think that I am an idiot, but did anyone hear about or read that story regarding the affects of controllers with the rumble feature?
I know this sounds absurd, but according to some article I read, young kids (like 12 to 15) were developing this condition where their hands would intermittently tremble from constant game playing (and the rumble feature). I remember a doctor saying that similar conditions were found in grown men who had worked with jackhammers for a living.
Crazy? I know, but that article made me think twice about the damn rumble feature...which I don't care for anyway.
Regardless, the Wavebird is a beautiful thing.
