According to CNN, Nintendo hasn't released their numbers yet. Either NPD has a secret source that analysts don't get and it is a huge coincidence that XBox-Cube and PSX2-GBA have the same numbers, or the numbers for GBA and Cube aren't accurate. I could be wrong, but I'd guess the Nintendo numbers aren't accurate.

Isn't NPD a reputable source? And don't they get their data from retailers?

Should be accurate, but I think certain retailers like Wal-Mart don't report their sales to them, so the numbers are probably higher for all three consoles anyway. Looks like everyone is doing good, but as I expected PS2 is still running away with the sales lead.

I don't think Walmart reports their sales to anyone.

Those are official numbers from NPD. Those numbers have been confirmed by IGN in an article on how Nintendo has done for the month of November. From IGN's article:

Today Nintendo released first official sales numbers regarding a number of its holiday products. Everything is based largely on the sales spike that occurred during the November shopping season. Following is the bullet-point list that the company released, complete with plenty of comparisons to its competitors:

*The November NPD report of sales data from American retailers shows that Nintendo GameCube jumped more than three full percentage points in next generation console share. Meanwhile, PlayStation 2 increased two percentage points ... all at the expense of Microsoft's Xbox ... which lost five points of the market.

*Unit sales of Nintendo GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox were dead even in November (468,000 units each) -- despite Microsoft giving away two free games with their hardware.

*Nintendo GameCube also showed the biggest jump in software sales, climbing more than 150 percent over October totals compared to 97 percent for the Xbox and 48 percent for PlayStation 2.

*With the entry of Metroid Prime, Nintendo GameCube is on track to have four new titles this year eclipse one half-million unit sales, while no new Xbox title has yet to reach that mark.

*Both Metroid Prime for Nintendo GameCube (#2) and Metroid Fusion for Game Boy Advance (#10) appeared among the top 10 sellers for all game sales in November.

*With sell-through of 1.3 million units, Game Boy Advance was as popular in November as PlayStation 2. Game Boy represents 33 percent of the total hardware market.

*Nintendo held 46 percent of the total hardware share for the month of November, an increase of 11 percent over October. Sony held 42 percent (-6 percent), while Microsoft held only 12 percent (-5 percent)

Nintendo spin, but they're stating facts.

Surprising that there is no 2002 XBox release that has hit 500,000 sales. If MSoft sold 468,000 systems in November, people that were buying new systems weren't buying enough of the same games to push any title over 500,000?

If this is accurate, is there any XBox title besides Halo that has hit 500,000 sales?

They list "facts", stuff like the hardware fact where they combine GBA sales with console sales is kinda ridiculous since consoles and the GBA are apples and oranges just like consoles and PCs are apples and oranges.

The fact is, GCN had several killer apps out this year, more than Xbox, and was also cheaper than Xbox, but their sales were equal. That's probably pretty successful for Xbox.

If MS is counting the games packaged with their console as a sale, and I think they should, since what matters is they end up in the consumer's house, then that would have to put both JSRF and Sega GT over the 500K mark. I'd like to see Splinter Cell's numbers as well.

I think ending up in a virtual tie with Nintendo for the month of November has to be a bit of a disappointment for MS.

Nintendo's lone big gun for the month was one title, Metroid Prime. While MS countered with a two free game bundle, the launch of Xbox Live, Xbox Live games, and the big title, Splinter Cell. Not to mention the fact that MS spends more money on advertising versus Nintendo.

Yet even with all that, Gamecube took 13% of the market while Xbox took 12%.

its kinda surprising to me if xbox and nintendo would have equal or close to equal sales. I expected nintendo to be slightly below MS, not alot but very little. I work part time at best buy an I recently saw the sales of all the game systems. It was either in the month or november or within the past few months. Keep in mind, this just OUR store and only one location. This is our stores revenue from console sales. PS2 = 53k, Xbox = 23k, Gamecube = 19k.

Nintendo trying to spin the numbers by using aggregate GC and GBA numbers is no worse than when MS included beta testers in their PR about XBL's first week sales. All companies do it.

PS2 games hold half of the top 20 spots with the remainder more or less evenly divided between XBox, GC, and GBA. If you look at total unit sales, though, you'd see that aggregate sales for just the top 3 PS2 games outnumber the aggregate sales for all other platform titles in the top 20 combined. How's that for spin?

RE0 doesn't look like it's going to be disappointing as far as sales go. If I recall, its numbers in Japan weren't so hot either.

Overall, though, it looks like GC is starting to gain on XBox here in NA. If they can maintain parity with XBox here, it'll more or less cement their hold on the number 2 spot worldwide.

If there's a silver lining in this for MS, it's that Mech Assault and Unreal Championship both cracked the top 20 with sales of a bit over 100K each. It shows that XBox Live is driving some software sales.

Excelesor - keep in mind that GameCube is only 150.

So, if your revenue estimates are only based on system sales, your store sold about 127 GameCubes and about 115 XBoxes.

Why is this list in French?? I had to stare at #8 for a few seconds before realizing that it was LOTR: Two Towers.

I'm surprised as I felt that MS would pull ahead with the extra games and type S in the package. In addition MS continues to dominate reatail floors at stores. They have the Xbox on the end of every gaming section plain as day.

I travel quite a bit and am always disaapointed in the GC representation. It's always shoved in the back like an unwanted child.

Nintendo is holding their own though.

I believe companies pay stores for the displays. I know in EB and Gamestop that's the case with them answering the phone and saying "your x-box headquarters" or whatever company paid them that month.

Josh is correct. Retail space and location is dictated by the almighty dollar. (Or benifits etc.) But what isn't these days?

The following is just my opinion

Interesting enough, I think while MS aggressivness might help consumer awareness, I know on my college campus the xbox is starting to look like a real "dork" system to own. I'm not starting a flame war here, I'll be the first to say that the GC is considered the same in a lot of regards. However it's interesting to me that the xbox is getting this treatment for different reasons. From my understanding it is because of MS's own aggressiveness to be cool that is making the product's image suffer. In other words, MS's many advertisements and promotions (exspecially on college campuses) are making the system appear that it has to try real hard to be "cool". I don't know if MS advertising group gets that or not. Yes advetising will affect consumer opinion, but when it's non-stop consumer opinion can turn against you.

Interesting, given the fact that the XBOX is actually more of a geek system than the other two due to the easy modification and availability of emulators, media players (DiVX, MP3, others), TCP clients and built-in ether port.

I'd think Xboxes would make pretty decent media centers for dorm rooms.
