Do I need to buy a modem for Xbox live?
 

I want to try and use my free DSL connection I get with student housing. Does the Xbox have a modem or just a port where one gets plugged in? Before you flame me for asking this, I tried to find out on the Xbox website but it was pretty worthless.

It comes with a broadband connection. So no.

the xbox has a built in ethernet port. Just plug in an ethernet cable connected to a broadband connection and you are good to go.

so do you need a router, or just plug a ethernet cable into the cable modem.

depends on if you have computers that use your connection. You can plug the cable coming from the cable modem directly into your xbox and be good to go..

Or, you can do like I do, plug the cable from the cable modem into a router, and then run cables from the router to your pc(s) and xbox.

Or you can buy a PS2 and play on dialup.
