offcial xbox magazine
i got my first offical xbox magazine in the mail today, i started reading it, and is it me or this magazine major fanboyish?
christ, they first thing i read, "editor's letter" recommended buying 20+ new games!
almost every article has a line or 2 bashing PS2.
is this magazine part of MS? from what i have read, it doesnt seem that objective at all.... it seems better to read reviews offline then trust this magazine

What did you expect excellent unbiased journalism
. Yes it is biased beyond belief, but what Official "enter platform name here" mag isn't. I'm a subscriber mainly for the demos and updates on upcoming games any other gems that may be inside are just a bonus for me.

Oh, okay - and like Nintendo Power says nice things about PS2 and Xbox? Oh, and I'm sure PSM has heaps of wonderful things to say about GCN and Xbox? It's an Xbox magazine... what do you expect? I don't think there's a such thing as an unbiased magazine... even the magazines that are for all systems in general are biased towards one system or another it seems. The only reason to get OXM is for the preview discs... if you believe reviews, their reviews are pretty fair compared to other single console magazines. You can't trust Game Informer or GamePro for reviews.

I wish I could just buy the demo disc, why do we need all the lame jokes, tiny print and rhetoric?

There's a HUGE difference between OXM, OPM and PSM in how they refer to the competition. OXM comes across as childish and jealous. I think it's actually gotten better in the last couple of issues (if you think it's bad now...).
Demo discs are pretty much all OXM has to offer.
I don't think MS is involved with the content though. It's published by Imagine. I think it's just bad contributors, editors, etc.

Every time I read OXM I notice how every game is "the greatest game in home console gaming". The most recent case was the new Superman game for X-Box. OXM called it something to the effect of the greatest super hero game ever. Then I believe Electronic Gaming Monthy gave it a dismal 2.5 rating. When ever an X-Box owner writes in and asks "Why don't we have Game A or Game B or Game C?" it's always the same old song and dance;
"We haven't heard anything definite yet", "There's no official word", "We don't have confirmation at this time. But he we have Halo!!".
Microsoft probably doesn't have anything to do with the content but they most likely selected an editorial that was going to tow the line. Magazines make money by selling advertising space. And a magazine laden with X-Box ads is definitley going to be skewed one way or the other.

i wasnt comparing this magazine to any other, considering the others (that are console exclusive) are not related to the xbox, i dont see the point. if everyone else jumps off a bridge should you?
i guess i just (foolishly) expected a more adult approach from the magazine. NOT a bunch of Fanboyish stuff, and PS2 bashing.
isnt the average age of a xbox owner over 20? that magazine is written with a lower reading level then USA today!
OXM comes across as childish and jealous.
Gromit - perhaps jealous of the sheer number of games on the PS2.
Demo discs are pretty much all OXM has to offer.
I agree that for $25/yr it is worth the crappy writing because of the demo disc and the BBV (among other) coupons.
OH, and for the number of times microcsoft is metioned you would think they would abreviate it MS like they abreviate every game title.... that would ad a few lines per page to bash the pS2 some more!

PSM and NP don't really mention the other consoles. It's obvious that they think that "their" console is best but they don't bash the others. Neither one is a particularly good magazine but at least they don't sound like they're written by a 13 year old poster at IGN.

Perhaps you should read some Hemmingway, Salinger or Steinbeck to bring yourself back up to College level.

The only mag I get right now is the OXM and that's just for the demo disc itself. I agree that OXM bashes twice as bad as other magazines do, but with 2 other consoles in competition they have twice as much bashing work to do.
It doesn't seem any worse than the NP and PSM bashing each other like it was back years before the Xbox came out. But yes PSM and NP have toned it down since they've matured. Maybe OXM will mature also and use that bashing energy to give some reasonable reviews.
One thing last month that was more true in OXM than any other magazine was they included an airsick "Barf Bag" in the Superman game advertisement.

OXM and MS may not be directly afilliated with each other, but each one thinks about bashing the competition all the time, it's just that they do it differently.
OXM bashes loudly and upfront. (childishly)
MS bashes with alot more class. (I.E. The time that MS sent Sony their version of the PS2 online starter kit.)
Now that was frickin' hillarious!!
