I think gaming is alot more mainstream now, I remember in the early PS1 and before that, when I would be in EB, there was me , and like two other geeks, and we were like fish in a fish bowl, everyone else in the mall would just walk by the store and look at us like losers. Now you have 200 people waiting outside Best buy for GTA:VC and I cannot even walk into my EB most of the time due to the amount of people.

I know what you mean. Its kinda sad, but then again Im glad people are a lot more accepting of gaming these days. One thing I thought was damn_stupid was the commercial for Blockbuster Video's Game Freedom pass. You know the one where the guy didnt have time to shower? I thought it was weak.

I thought there was only one sign of a hardcore games:

Owning the original Samba De Amigo maracas...and not being ashamed to use them!

As you can see, there are various meanings of hardcore.

Although some here are actually of the casual gamer type.

I consider myself to be a casual gamer. I buy a lot of games but I rarely play any of them consistently enough to really become good at them. At one time I was ranked 33rd in the world in Links LS at the highest setting but I dropped out because I didn't like the changes in the 2001 version. But that is the exception. I still haven't finished Halo after having it for a year and I haven't finished most of the other games I have. I will occasionally go back and pick up an old game from where I left off.

I like the racing genre but I'm not much of a tweaker. I don't mind playing a racing simulation if I can find a decent setup for the cars. I'd prefer to play an arcade racer with a realistic driving model.

No, I'm a casual gamer now.

With grad school and work I don't have time to be a hardcore gamer.

I play games at most 5 hours a week right now, and it's usually more like 1 or 2 hours.

How can you do that? Doesn't that bother you?

I wish I could do the same but I have a conscience and if I buy games and max my credit card I feel guilty and then I don't play games confortably.

I own 2 of every system I have ever owned. Two reasons:
1) A Backup in case down the road one of them quits on me.
2) I'd like to show my future children 10-20 years from now what I was playing 20 years ago on a system.

Single Systems (Waiting to buy backup)

GameCube
XBOX
PS2
GBA

Double systems include:

2 ColecoVisions (Atari & Super Controllers, 2 of each)
2 NES 8 Bit (including R.O.B.)
2 Super Nintendos
2 Sega Genesis
2 N64
3 PlayStations (2 Original, 1 PSOne)
3 Dreamcasts (1 Orignal, 2 Black Sports Edition)

Total Number of Games: 700+ (Haven't actually counted)
Pair of Original Team Sonic Samba De Amigo Controllers
Logitech Gran Turismo 3 Edition Steering Wheel

Yeah I know... I'm working on getting the Saturns for sure... the NEO GEO would be incredible but at the time I just couldn't afford it.. same with 3DO.. the systems seem to come right on top of one another along with Sega 32X and CD... I was struggling with work and building a career at the time....

And to answer Skippy... yes... have had a few girlfriends.. long term.. and didn't pay for them .. just in case you were gonna ask.

But you have multiple of the same systems, you could have bought the rest!!

Anyway, my friend has like 6 Sega Saturns, he is just obsessed with it and has various versions of all the different Japanese release (clear, clear blue, white, developmental, etc)....

As was said before...

I simply don't have time to be "hardcore". I enjoy the gaming time I can get.
