Will a Japanese LIVE set up work with a US XBOX? I'm in Japan now so it'd be hard for me to get a US one.

Of course the demo disks won't work, but if I get a U.S. version of a game, I'm hoping I can use the Japanese XBOX live connection still...I've been looking for answers to questions concerning international compatibility and still haven't found them anywhere online yet...

I just tried it and the signal got VERY weak. I could barely hear other players on both headsets. I dont know how to boost the signal. As it is, its unusable so i guess we're stuck with one headset for now.

I have found digital crack...and thy name is Unreal on Xbox Live. I hooked it up at 10pm last night & made myself turn it off around 1am. Damn work!

Here's a few questions I could not find the answers to.

1) Can I use XBox Live with a Mac computer?

2) What is I am just interested in watching a game with out playing it. Just to see what it looks like. Is that possible over the computer?

1) Yes, although you don't really need a computer. Just a broadband connection to the internet.

2) Not possible. You must own the Xbox version of the game to try it out or, borrow it from a friend.

I HATE the headset. Cheap and uncomfortable. I hope they sell an deluxe padded one or a better third party comes up with something.

Also I got an invite last night but I had no way of knowing (that I could tell) of what game I was being invited to. It was Snowmizer, BTW :D:up: and I had to got to my friendlist and see what he was playing.

I've read somewhere that you can play multiplayer games like Halo on-line, even if it is not supported with X-box live at present. I can't seem to find the thread for this. Can you clarify how this can be done? I just grabbed Medal of Honor, and I'm hoping I can play these online with some friends.

I'm looking to buy myself XBOX live and 1 or 2 LIVE enabled games. I was wondering which game has the best LIVE features right now? Single player is nice but its LIVE capabilities is what I'm looking for. There is one criteria though and its that it can't be straight 1st person or my head might start pounding with a splitting headache a couple minutes into the game. It happens sometimes and I don't want to chance it. I've read many good things about mechassault on these forums and its 3rd person too right?

Hey, thanks a lot! Must try this over the weekend. Halo to me continues to be the best video game the past few years, maybe ever?! Don't even play it as much anymore but do appreciate the quality and the graphics of the game. Sure will be nice to grab Halo 2 soon!

Here's the thing, the head problems probably won't happen with Ghost Recon, the game doesn't try and simulate movement (bobbing up and down) and that's what causes the headaches in FPS mainly. I say get GR and MA, both great XBL games. Unreal does the bobbing thing and I'm not that impressed with the Live play so far.

Xbconnect.com, way less lag than Gamespy. With Gamespy, I can't locate a game with less than 140 ping, ever.

Buy which ever cable is the cheapest. The ethernet Jack is a 10/100 ethernet jack. Cat 5 is fine for that. Catagory 5e and 6 ethernet cable is just over kill, but if they were the same price I'd get Cat6.

Well, I got an X-box live kit today, along with Ghost Recon.

I think I am going to wait to activate my account, so I can get decent at this game before I try and play anyone else.

My question is:

When I go online, Is there a way to play other beginners, or people with my skill level, or do I just have to chance it? As a beginner, will I be able to find a game?

I don't want to play people who have been playing this for a good month solid who will just kill me immediately since I haven't had a chance to play as much as them.

Actually, Ghost Recon might be better to try online first. I tried the single player & had no idea where to go or where I was beiung shot at from. I went online & played some missions with people who were better (if you play co-operative better players playing is a good thing so they can help you) & just followed/flanked them killing anyone on their sides till I got better. Then I ripped through the single player missions to unlock all the weapons that you can use online. Now I know where everything is & what needs to be done so I can help my teammates now. I have NFL, NHL, Unreal & Ghost Recon, and Ghost Recon is deifnitely my favorite. If you get a decent team it's great.

Xbox Live Setup Question
 

I have a few questions about Xbox Live Setup and I figured you guys could help me with it.

I am thinking about getting Xbox Live, but my computer (with cable modem) is upstairs and my Xbox is downstairs. I can't do the wireless method because it is too expensive (isn't it about $200?), so I wanted to try and do the wired method. So my question is, what is the cheapest wired router that would work with Xbox Live? I found this cable: Dell and was wondering if that would work with any routers. Thanks in advance.

That will work. The odd thing is the offical XBox brand link cable wont work with most routers because its a crossover cable. But plain vanilla RJ45 is fine.

I got a four port Linksys but I got it from a friend so Im not sure if its the best bargain. Works fine though. Ive never had a problem.

Ok I bought the starter kit and i need help. my cable connection is upstairs in my dads office. the computer downstairs is connected to it by wireless network. the antannae (sp) is connected to my computer by usb cable. (if this makes sense, its not the flatter rectangular one, but the one that is a square) anyway obviously you need to connect through ethernet cable. i dont have an ethernet connection on the computer. my question is: is there a cable that is ehternet one side and usb on the other? this way i can connect the ehternet side to the xbox and the usb to the network antannae. hopefully this makes sense, but if not ask me any questions. thanks

ok update from the above post. i read the xbox live website and kind of figured some stuff out (sorry im not that computer savvy technical wise) anyway i think that i am going to have to hook this up by a windows ics connection:

As you've probably already discovered, there's no way to attach the USB wireless network adapter to the XBox directly.

The method described in the link can work, but you'll need an ethernet adapter in the computer. Windows Me comes with ICS built-in so you're set on that front. Basically, what you'd need to do is buy a PCI ethernet adapter ($5 to $30), install it in the computer. Plug the XBox into the ethernet adapter using a special cross-over patch cable. Then enable Internet Connection Sharing on the computer, at which point the XBox should be able to access the Live network.

With this setup, whenever you want to play Live, you'll need to boot your PC first and have it on while you're playing.

I've never used Win Me so I'm not too familiar with exactly where everything is in it. In general, though, it should be in network properties for the adapter.

In Win2K, there's a "sharing" tab in the "network properties" dialog and on that page, you can check "share this internet connection." Basically, you'll want to check that for your USB wireless adapter and things should work from there.

ok did all that and it still doesnt work. does anybody here have it setup by means of a wireless network? i need help bad.

An expensive solution but it works great. It becomes more justifiable if your using the wireless hardware for other devices besides the xbox.

well i have officially given up. i called support and as soon as he heard "wireless network" he rudely pushed me off the phone and basically said he couldnt tell me anything. eff this im returning it.

I think it depends more on your hub or router than your modem.

I won't be using a router or a hub, at least for now. I will just hook up the cable to the modem and to the back of the Xbox. Will that type of cable work? TIA.

If windows can use it so can the box. Youll probally have to set the settings manually though.

Could you elaborate on what settings I would have to change? I thought all I would have to do would be to connect the cable to the Xbox and to the cable modem after unplugging the cable that goes from the modem to my computer? Is it more complicated? Thanks again!

It should autodetect the settings but without a router Im not 100%. But if it doesnt its not very difficult. You can get everything off the properties of your connection in Control panel and put it in the box settings. Very easy.
