PS2 Shimmer?

Anyone notice a flicker/shimmer on their PS2 games and DVDs played on the PS2? Does it have to do with interlacing? I'm using the composite cables that came with the PS2 (no s-video on the tv I play on). Just wondering if this is due to the cables or if it's a shortcoming of the PS2?

My buddy just got the xbox and i didn't see anything like this. Also, the colors are pretty nasty with DVD playback. Another common flaw?

Nope, every PS2 I've used looks and works fine(I use S-Video with mine, but used Composite for a few months with no problems as well).

You don't have it hooked up through a VCR do you?

Can't think of any other reason for the picture to be messed up.

i'm noticing something with my ps2 that I would describe as a shimmer as well. I've always used the composite cables and never had a problem, but now tony hawk 4 seems to do some weird shifting of the image on the screen every once in a while. it's the only game that i've had a problem with and it's pissing me off.

Would you describe the textures as shimmering? That's a problem with the PS2 caused by its lack of memory. The DVD thing sounds like the tv needs to be calibrated or else maybe it's macrovision or something.

i think i misslabeled my problem...i guess it's not a shimmering like a flash in light. it's more of the background in the game shifting as if the game is messed up or there is a loss of memory as GPig said.

so mine probably isn't related after all. just something is funked with tony hawk 4 or my ps2.

anyone else noticing anything weird in tony hawk 4 though?

I have not read anything about there being a memory problem with a game especially one like Tony Hawk 4. This is either a hook up problem or some other issue. Maybe the disc is dirty although it does not sound like it to me.

Actually it would make sense for a game like TH4 since they are pushing the system further, the lack of texture memory becomes more and more apparent.
